Flushing the barrel on a percussion rifle

I have a second jug of warm water handy. After the first flush remove hose from jug and pour water down barrel until fresh clean water comes out end of hose, then insert it into jug and do the final rinse. John

    Powder load for deer hunting

I have the same rifle and it is most accurate with 60 grains of 2F behind a .570 PRB in pillow ticking. That load has put several whitetail racks on my wall. I wish I could still hunt with it, but arm, shoulder and back problems has kept it in the safe. John

    Cutting up thick lead sheets

If you have a friend in the Sheetmetal trade, ask to borrow his Wiss #17 snips for the lighter lead and his Bulldog's for the heavy stuff.

Let's hear about hunting deer from the ground!

Back in the old days when I was a kid, I learned from an old timer that he never more than a FEW steps at a time. If you were heard the animal stalked would think you were an animal browsing. He hunted mulies.

    Bear

You harvested a nice bear with a great color! I would not call bear when in thick cover unless I was in a treestand since they can sneak up on you very quietly. I have always used a 14'or higher stand when hunting bear over bait or calling. Climbing a ladder for them to smell a boot is not...

    Bob Hoyt

About two month ago I could not reach him by phone, so I mailed him a very short letter asking the price to re-bore a .56SB to .58, included was a stamped self addressed envelope and I have yet to receive a response.

    Samuel Walker's revolvers?

I thank everyone for the great info. My wife wanted to check my memory when I told her I had read many years ago that the serial numbers were 1009 and 1010. I still have not been able to verified that. Thanks again, John

    Samuel Walker's revolvers?

After seeing Legends and Lies on TV my mind got to thinking. Many years ago I read that two Colt Walker revolvers #1009 and #1010 were destined to be Samuel Walkers personal weapons. Does anyone know if that is true and if so, where are they now?

    Carrying a percussion pistol

This is in response to the first post of thread. I can't seem to edit since I hit reply on wrong one, duh me. This is what I did for my Lyman PP's. I took a short piece of dowel, drilled a hole in one end to go over the capped nipple, tapered the other end to fit in the hammer and have a...

    Best minne for an 1841?

Accuracy is very good with a 570PRB over 60grs 2F. No clue as per your question.

    Best minne for an 1841?

I forgot to add my rifle has five very thin lands.

    Best minne for an 1841?

Does anyone shoot an 1841 Mississippi rifle made by Navy Arms? If so, what minne works the best with 50-60gr 2f? Will be for fun shooting. I have only shot 570RB the last 25 years. I would like to make some minnes since I have over 500 pounds of lead, just need the right mold.
