    My Ballistol says “Contains Petroleum Distillate-a Trade Secret”. Right there under ingredients with a poison warning and directions in case of swallowing or eye contact. But maybe the formulation has changed? Either way it does NOT make sludge.

    Accidents do happen but I have never seen one where the flint would get damaged without damage to the firearm itself. I suppose it could happen but never felt the need to wrap the flint for such a remote possibility. Nothing says one can’t.

    With regards to patch lube for shooting I have just tried the Mr Flintlock patch lube. It works great for target shooting as it never requires me to swab the bore between shots and loading pressure on the ramrod is consistent shot to shot. For hunting though I prefer a heavier lube like Mike Oil...

    If it gets “jarred” enough to do thst something has broken. No need for anything under the flint as there is no contact with the pan.
