Need a permit to purchase a BP revolver?

I have purchased firearms in the past. I needed a permit to purchase when I bought a modern semi-auto 1911. I didn't need a permit to purchase any muzzle-loader. I believe Minnesota law exempts muzzle loaders, at least as far as I know. I have ordered and received muzzle-loaders and kits in the...

    Preparation H

I accidentally did that too. We were camping, and the lights were off. The taste was bad, but the thought of what it was made it worse.

    Filling a powder horn

There are accessories sold by Track of the Wolf and others. I got a brass fitting from a dealer at a rendezvous. I fastened it to the horn with epoxy or other adhesive. It is threaded to fit powder spouts, and also accepts a brass funnel that threads into it when the spout is unscrewed. I had to...

Historically Incorrect, or (A Story of Thread Counting and Delrin Rods)

Tenngun: I believe I read that Jedediah Smith was sewn back together using his own hair for stitching. Supposedly, that and the fact that they were a long way from the filth of civilization kept him from developing sepsis. Your linen thread would be acceptable if anybody cares to criticize.

    Who Is The Better Shot?

I have a granddaughter who is going to grow up to be an ideal female companion of that type that ugly old guy has in mind. She gets her deer, usually every year, camps and fishes, too. She is inheriting her share of my rendezvous stuff, including the long guns. The other 14 grandkids will get...

Capping and De-capping a Muzzle Loader

On the subject of cappers, and the people who are unfamiliar with muzzleloading, I was once amused when browsing Ebay to see a straight-line capper offered as something antique and probably rare. The seller stated that he wasn't sure what it was used for. I wrote to the seller and revealed the...

Suggestions on cleaning a 32 cal Flinter between shots?

The patch on a ball or jag is a larger percentage of the bore width in a .32 than in a .50 or .54. That explains why the fit of the ball+ patch or the jag+patch gets so tight. If I run a cleaning patch down my .32 bore, I almost always have to reach for my rod puller. A rod puller is a must-have...

    Greetings from Maryland

the shooting from across the Potomac is unreal. That's a pretty long shot! Seriously, what kind of restrictions are you talking about?

Why are or aren't you an NMLRA member?

Thinking in terms of the title of this thread: I am glad I finally became a member of NMLRA. I really enjoy the magazine, which I pass on to a neighbor after reading. I enjoy even more the online discussions, even if I don't join in every one. After knee and back surgeries, I have spent a lot of...

Correct Use of a Knapping Hammer

Must mean Dixie Gun Works. There have been previous posts about using acronyms without earlier reference to what they refer to. It would be kind to use the whole name at least once.

    homemade buttermilk

That was margarine (short for oleomargarine). It was illegal in Minnesota at one time. People would bring it in from Iowa. Finally, the legislature (controlled by the Democratic-Farmer-Labor DFL party) woke up to the fact that farmers grow corn and soybeans, which were used to make oleo. I was...

    Dawn Dishsoap

Perhaps the Dawn works by attaching to whatever lubricant is left in the bbl. from the patches. When the detergent is rinsed out, the oil, if any, is removed. A fair percentage of powder residue is removed with it.

    homemade buttermilk

Great story, Two Elks. Many people have had only the cultured buttermilk from the store in paper cartons. Real buttermilk from the churn, chilled in the refrigerator, is a delightful drink with fresh biscuits slathered with freshly churned butter. Store-bought buttermilk doesn't compare.

PA regulation changes to be considered

I agree that primitive should be primitive. That's one thing I like about rendezvous. The firearms have to at least look and operate the same as they did before smokeless powder came along. The ones I attend around here allow only round ball, not conical lead, at the shoots. Percussion or...

    Thoughts on SPAM "meat"

Log Cutter, you are really sounding like a real Trekker with your making bannock by the fire.
