where to find musket nipple to fit TC Hawkin 50 cal.

Musket caps are much more reliable than #11 caps! I know this from bitter experience!

How safe is it to use lead round balls while hunting?

Although lead can be very deadly for deer, lol, there is no concern about it "poisioning" the meat. Casting lead exposes one to much more lead fumes! However, the body gets rid of lead over time! When I cast lead, I make enough for several years.

    round balls don't do well

Back in the day, a guy named Dutch Schoultz ran a small add in Muzzleblasts, on how to shoot the round ball. I followed the destructions, shot a 50yd one hole, 5 shot group. I mailed it to Dutch, and he sent me a daploma. lol, Anyway, all that info is in Dutche's book. For sale on ebay. Black...

TC Hawken Great Plains Conical Fit

Back in the day I was deadly out to 150 yds with my 50 cal Ithaca Navy Hawken with the 385 gn "Buffalo Bullet" basicly the same as the hornady GPB, on top of 60 gn pyrodex. Never lost a deer with them! When I learned how to shoot the patched round ball, I stuck with them.

New Muzzleloader Shooter Hold Over Question

I sight my rifles in at 50 yds, with a 6 oclock hold on a 4" target. Point of aim at 75 yds.and about 2" low at 100 yds. Make sure that you find the optimum load BEFORE you take a file to your sights!

    Upcoming Wave of Classics?

Hey Y'all, I have always loved historic guns. I also have always studied history. I can't speak for other's, and my interests are far different than most people. After checking zeros for hunting and working up loads, I enjoy shooting my muzzeloaders the most. For me, slowing everything down is...

    The Future of Traditional Muzzleloaders?

Us "old guy's" are always willing to help newbies, or basicly anyone who posts a question. I don't want to die before revealing my 50 year's of experience with muzzleoaders! The problem is that if you ask 100 guy's a question, you are bound to get 150 answers! lol. and most of them correct...

    The Future of Traditional Muzzleloaders?

This is a "nitch" hobby. I don't believe that they ever stopped building tradional rifles. This is not for "mainstream" shooters. As far as I know, the custom builders have all the work that they can stand! The kits they offer make a really nice rifle, affordable to anyone with a job. In my...

Need some assitance with my first flintlock choice

Yes! They are fine rifles, until people see you with one at a rendvoue. I use my TC Hawken, with a fine, deep grooved drop-in barrel, and a scope, and .530 rb, to kill deer. It's like back in the day, when first got a motorcycle, I had a Yamaha 700. A woman, on her Shovelhead, told me to "get a...

Need some assitance with my first flintlock choice

For me the knowledge and skills I develop while building, or doing other work on guns and other things, is far more valuable than just the finished product. As well as an enjoyable hobby, it's an investment in yourself!

Need some assitance with my first flintlock choice

I can tell you from experience that my choice for deer is a .530 prb. They do allot of dammage! I recovered a ball that was flat like a quarter! Those prices seem high for used production rifles. Check out liveauctioneers for better deals.

    Pawn Shop Percussion

Don't expect to find a great deal right away! But, if you go by a few pawn shops every month, you will find a great deal within a few years!

    Pawn Shop Percussion

Keep in mind that it's easier to buy stuff, than to sell. Pawn shops often have cheap guns overpriced, and expensive guns underpriced. Used muzzeloaders are usually underpriced! In South Carolina where I live, we just have deer season. From August 15th till January 1st, you can shoot deer with...

    Pawn Shop Percussion

Great story! Back in the day, I found a CVA single shot .50 cal pistol kit for $25 because it was in the store too long, because no one wanted to waste a N.J. pistol permit on it, except me. Succeded from N.J. 20 years ago! lol. For me, finding great underpriced deals is a big part of my gun hobby.
