Problem with ignition on my new Hawken

I had a similar experience recently shooting a few rounds with a percussion .45 w/o a patent breech. I had awful slimy fouling that completely clogged the flash channel after about 20 shots. I was swabbing with lubed patches(what I had at the time). I attribute my issue to the very light coat of...

    .45 Round Ball Water Test

Also if you're having accuracy issues with PRB I'd recommend lower powder charges, especially if you think the twist is too fast.

    .45 Round Ball Water Test

I have not. That was my first water test. I've only shot balls out of this gun. Lands are .453 (11.5mm) and using a .30-06 case head I think the groove Dia. is close to .472/.473 (~12mm)... makes for .010 rifling depth... not sure I could get a good seal... even REAL would have a gap as it's top...

Looking for .540-.545 round ball mold.

Marty Arms makes molds in .01" increments. https://www.martysarms.com/ They are also sold by BPI. I found them while contemplating a .52 cal rifle build...

Ideas on Flint British officers fusil?

I will concede that officers even in this day must privately purchase many items issued to enlisted troops. I have no doubt that almost all "Officer's Fusils" were privately purchased. It is possible ALL British Officer's Fusils were privately purchased. Most originals I've found seem to be in...

    .45 Round Ball Water Test

I had the wads on hand. I used them under a .50 PA conical in a lyman deerstalker. I had some older (10 year) .015 TC patches so I used them in case the patches were degraded. Probably don't need them but they don't seem to hurt either. I'm well acquainted with your use of .45 for deer...

Ideas on Flint British officers fusil?

Here's an original. I'm toying with the Idea of one as well in 16ga. Brass buttplate and furniture. 40" Full round barrel. I believe this example is .69"

    .45 Round Ball Water Test

I agree. I consider half the weight of the projectile to be a prudent maximum with blackpowder arms. So approximately 70 grains in .45, 90gr in .50, and 115gr in .54. Blackpowder has been killing things on the game and battle fields for 700 years or so.

    Original Left Handed flintlock guns?

There also appears to be an American firm out of NY B&J Cooper that made flintlocks from 1801-1831 according to the site below (last photo). Not sure if that's the same maker? Added another couple J. Cooper locks for comparison too...
