    Round ball and blood trails

You are correct. But I have been kinda lucky with round balls. Longest shot I have had was with a .45. None of my deer have moved more than about 5 yards. And I admit that is just luck. But I only used the .45 once, I usually use a .54 or a .58.

    Cutting large chunks of lead

Believe it or not, a chainsaw really works great. I have helped cut up lead counter weights that came in 500 pound blocks. Place on a large tarp to collect the shavings. And it doesn't really dull the chain.

Just a note, I have never shot this gun. Sold it to customer back in the late 70's. Now I am selling his estate. I am more into flinters and have only one cap gun, an 1861 Colt musket.

    Musket caps on Amazon.

A customer of mine came to my shop with some REALLY OLD caps, brands and dates from the 1800's. And I am sure they would not work well. He was cleaning out a old barn on his ranch(YONCALLA Oregon). They look pretty good, but a over a hundred years old. I've tried Winchester caps from before 1900...

    Best common household lubricant?

All those work, just don't use petroleum products. Make my own lube but have used other lubes and still did ok and had a good time. Barstal and water are what I use if my bear fat lube is not mixed up and I am in a hurry. Everyone has a lube they like best. Try several and make your own choices...

    Pedersoli woes....

I'm not a fan of Pedersoli, as a gunsmith I have repaired a few of them. But all really only had small issues that if the owners had taken the time, they could have repaired or corrected them selfs. Sometimes even high end guns need some care.

Is the black powder revolver industry dying out?

Oh, would need to change hammer (the firing pin).

Thompson Center Hawken hurts my face

Had the same issue with one back in '74, but it shot really great. I got smart and had it re-stocked and then it fit. Stock shape makes a big difference

    Ok you 40 caliber shooters.

Depending on the gun, can really be a large difference between guns.
