Soldering brass patchbox lid 'bracket' to brass coin

Thanks. I think I'm going to get Any reason to not use a soldering *iron? I read somewhere else to use silver(minimum 3.5% silver) solder for strength, does this sound accurate?

Soldering brass patchbox lid 'bracket' to brass coin

Well, I dont have a soldering iron/gun either, so I wanted to find out if my idea was even feasible before getting everything I would need. Both coin and patchbox is brass. Coin is just over 1.5 inches, patchbox is 1 7/8. I dont have the coin either, it's around $20 and I would have to alter...

Soldering brass patchbox lid 'bracket' to brass coin

Good evening all. I decided to gift a rifle I had bought probably 7 years ago to my father in law. He is from Illinois and I found a commemorative coin I would like to try to convert to a patchbox lid. The gun is a Traditions hawken. I can give dimensions if needed, but I'm wondering how...

    I messed up a barrel.

Here you go. Hammer and lock didn't turn out how I imagined, I'm not surprised though. The case colored finish was very hard to work with. I'm ok with it though. Oh, I did the triggers too, because well.. Just because!

    I messed up a barrel.

I also browned the bottom metal on the trigger assembly(and other pieces too)w/the same exact method, after filing and polishing, which actually came out how I imagined it should. Pics of that on request.

    I messed up a barrel.

That IS a beautiful finish. My application times were much shorter, they probably averaged 4-5 hours. It was a while ago so cant remember exactly but definitely not 12. Also, I carded with hot water every application, and used an old pair of blue Jean's for carding. The jeans visibly removed...

    I messed up a barrel.

I might should add, I only used the sand paper and sw on the under barrel, under where the barrel rib attaches. For obvious reasons.

    I messed up a barrel.

That makes a lot of sense. When I did mine I cranked up the humidity and sweat times because after the first couple of applications I didn't notice hardly any finish. After the 0000 and oil (earlier today)it was pretty smooth yet still with visible tiny, shallow "pits", which maybe more...

    I messed up a barrel.

Thanks you two. I originally kind of liked it.. it seems durable enough, and obviously it has stopped rusting. Can I get some perspective/ suggestions?

    Sorry, here's the rest.

    I messed up a barrel.

No. Just sanded with 400 grit sp.

    I messed up a barrel.

Finished my Crockett last year. Shot it once. Took it out today because I'm bored and actually working on an old Hawken kit.. When I *finished* the barrel w/ lmf it wasnt smooth, and didn't look at all like a blueing as far as texture, which I now know it should. What I got from the process is...

I did it. Crockett is finished!

Only last thing. The set trigger does not set the hammer off unless the barrel is on. But with the barrel on it has worked 100% of the time. Normal?

I did it. Crockett is finished!

Wow.. so many mistakes, so many road bumps.. feels good thoughI've shot it 3x, didn't think I needed a patch worm for my first outing(rookie mistake). It(I) shot as good as I probably could. First loaded cap did not ignite charge, put another cap on(#10) and it went off w/delay about a whole...
