Jim-Ive built five of your guns and have a sixth on order with Bree. Each one I've tried to increase my skill and ability from basically nothing to carving to using aqua fortis and different barrel finishes. Each one has turned out nicer than the last.
I want to learn how to put the brass cap...
Has anyone done this? I've seen the instructions for the Colonial but the Woodsrunner patchbox is more concave. The brass sheet that comes with the kit won't bend enough to fit.
Should I get thinner sheet stock?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Track of the Wolf has this product call Genuine Oil. Its by Birchwood Casey. Supposed to give a satin finish vs. the high gloss of Tru Oil.
Has anyone tried it? I am curious how it compares to Tru Oil?
So I asked earlier about aging brass using the Jax black. I plan to blacken it then rub it back a bit. How durable is this finish? Will it continue to wear off?
Will the underlying brass continue to naturally patina (tarnish) or does the Jax protect it?
Anyone ever tried spraying the brass...
Can someone please explain the process for blackening brass using this stuff. I followed instructions an bottle bit nothing really happen. Maybe my entry thimble got a litter darker but nowhere near black.
Thanks
That is beautiful. I love the walnut.
How did you get the wedding bands so perfect? I have a micro file set but I'm struggling to get the casting line off the top of the band.
I have 4 hours in the triggerguard of my Woodsrunner. Filing, sanding, filing and sanding. Still not perfect but getting close. so many small voids.
Is there an easier way?
Help please on patchbox. I can't get the spring to lock in behind the buttplate. I sanded the back of patchbox slightly so spring moves freely. When I slide the patchbox on, I don't think its going forward enough for spring to drop down behind buttplate and catch.
Should I file the spring to...
Has been far from easy. I've built two Colonials, a SMR, two or three GPRS and a mountain rifle from Cabin Creek. No expert but not a beginner either.
Pin wouldn't fit through trigger; had to drill larger even with sanding and filing pin stock.
Trigger was binding on back of trigger plate...
