Interesting info from the Lewis and Clark expedition

Confirmation from another source. Per a short research stint... I remember reading this now that you reminded me .... so thanks! This youngest member of the Corps had a reputation for wandering off and getting lost. He usually worked as a hunter on shore ahead of the boats to feed the Corps...

    Hawken Shop Kit

For what it's worth. I received my Hawken kit from The Hawken Shop in March of 2022. The components are high quality, no compromises and Greg is a wealth of information. It takes a good deal of hand work to complete the project, sharp tools and patience. I am retired so time was not an...

    Best Shot You Ever Had

My "best" shot is a hunting story. The first fall after completion of my J.P. Beck flintlock, I headed to my stand in a wooded area adjacent to a swamp. As I approached, I stopped at the sound of deer running through shallow water. I actually said to myself, "I'm not even ready". Two deer...

Most accurate flintlock rifle you own

Only have one, which I built with my friend Lew Robinson over thirty years ago. Stock from a blank, Siler lock kit, .54 cal Swamped Douglas barrel, Lew made the patch box and did the carving. It's good to have friends! Frosty

    Period correct rear sight?

To answer your question, Buckhorn rear sights were common on a Hawken Rifle. https://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/877/1 Having said that, I agree with Dave. I am fortunate that I can shoot accurately with a Buckhorn. Many folks detest them. Shoot what works for you, it is your gun...

    How Made This "Hawken"

Two things. First, give the barrel a thorough cleaning, including judicious use of a pipe cleaner in the flash channel. Second, I found this listing, it may be of use. Joe Lynn O'Brien Birth19 Dec 1952 - Monahans, Ward, Texas, USA DeathUnknown - null MotherUnavailable FatherLysle Obrien Nice...

Adding an APERTURE to your glasses so you can SEE the sights!

Just received the Gehmann 393 stick-on iris from Sport Shooting Depot, in MIchigan. Fast delivery! The aperture adjustment provides far more variation as compared to the Merit I've been using. As soon as the snow stops, I'll head to the range and let you know how it works out. Frosty
