    Grumpy old man inlay

If my wife sees this I know what she will say. And I don't even look like that guy.

    Aquafortis vs lmf stain

I use both. I start with Kiblers iron nitrate, and after blushing I use LMF Lancaster maple or maple depending on the color I want. After that Tried & True until the grain is filled.

Maple vs. Walnut for SxS shotgun stock

I have always been a big fan of nice walnut.

    Darkening/Dulling Brass

I always finish my brass with maroon Scotch-Brite and let it go after that. I think its a nice finish and no shine.

    Ramrod Finish

I use the darkest walnut stain I have on hand, and then a couple coats of Tried & True oil.

    Gunsmithing screwdrivers

Brownell's is what I have always used.

    Kibler screwed me

If it was me I would have run to the nearest hardware store and got a new drill. No way I could wait to see what's inside.

    Sealer, how long?

I also would let it sit for 24 hrs , 2 days if its real cold.

    1970's Hawken presentation

Very nice. The metal work is great.

Finish Questions for Kibler SMR stock

I've been using on top of the stain , a couple coats of Permalyn sealer, sanded with maroon scotch bright in between coats. Followed by how ever many coats of Tried & True it takes to get the finish I like. I always thin my Tried & True 50/50 with mineral sprits.

What would it take for the NMLRA to become a true "national" organization?

I live in California and will probably never go to Friendship. However supporting muzzle loading is what this organization does, so for me the money is well spent.

    Stain color?

If it was me, I would first stain it with a dark walnut and then add a second coat of ebony stain to get it darker.

    Japanese Reproductions

Miroku makes wonderful rifles. They are the makers of Winchester and Browning rifles now. I have a new Winchester M92 lever action rifle that is to die for, it is that nice.
