    Help choosing my first flintlock

Well, I guess nothing is without risk. I just remember my wife encouraging me to buy a boat shortly after I subscribed to "Flying" and "Trade-A-Plane"!

TVM southern mtn rifle range report

That's impressive for almost any rifle! Are you sure that was 60 yds? I think I can see powder burns on the paper... ;)

    Help choosing my first flintlock

Here's an idea... Let the wife "catch" you shopping for a new Weatherby Mark V in .416 Wby. Mag. with a Swarovski scope. If the $4k+ doesn't get her attention, the nine dollars a pop will! That TVM flinter shootin' old wheel weights will look down right cheap!

Great morning on the range! After gettin' her dialed in with 90g FFFg, .451 ball, .012 ticking, Swiss null-B prime, and Dawn patch lube, my last three shot group was 1.25" at 50 yards. With my tired 'ole eyes I'm surprised I could sight it that close. On the other hand, I'd rather be lucky...

Reminds me of Grandpa braggin' on the best hammer he ever owned... He liked it so much that he replaced the handle three times and the head twice!

    I Need Patch Help

She said she used spit, which was really just a little more information than I wanted... I almost asked "Red Man or Skoal?"

    I Need Patch Help

I just made a trip to my local Walmart last night looking for patch material. I asked the 'lil 'ole lady if she had some 100% cotton ticking, she said "sure" and showed me several to choose from. I whipped out my caliper and asked in my friendliest smart alek voice "do you happen to know the...

The learning IS the fun! Now, if I can just learn to hold her steady for that hour or so between "whoosh" and "Bang!"

Thanks smoothflinter and fitter. I really don't mind a little objective criticism. Very few of us are perfect, although I've found it wise to believe that my wife is. ;) Authors of what little I've read elsewhere qualified their descriptions with "usually" when referring to characteristics of...

Thanks Zonie. Still lots to learn! If I ever get into reenacting that deep I'll probably want to be a little more careful. This one is a working gun. She's shooting well within "minute of deer" and I'm looking forward to opening day! Thanks Spot. I'm proud as a ten year old with a new...

Good morning J. G. I only met Mr. Anderson when I asked him to build this rifle. We originally spoke some two years ago but it took me that long to set aside the funds for it. Having finally made the leap, I couldn't be happier with end result... or should I say the beginning of this...

That's a keen eye ya got there, fitter. What style of lock should have been used?

Thanks for the tips. TOTW is out of stock on the size I need but I ordered some of the French amber flints. I'm having a little trouble locating Rich Pierce. Would you mind sharing contact info for him? Thanks. I've also got the Lee .451 mold on order from Cabelas and a gallon of used stick...
