    Thompson Center 12 gauge question

I talked to gunsmith at the local shop today when I went in to try and haggle for a T/C Rifle. He took the barrel off and then removed the barrel from a Renegade and there was a complete difference. He rescinded what he said about swapping them over and that ended it for me. I want a flintlock...

Thomson Center .50 cal rifle questions

Thanks for the replies everyone, I went online and saw these rifles selling for $650-$900. I think that is just too much for a muzzleloading rifle that isnt a good looking custom job. I went back to the shop this morning and offered $450 and the owner wouldn't budge so I walked. Thanks all for...

    Thompson Center 12 gauge question

Are they hard to load with the choke in ? I was thinking about using some sort of paper cartridge to load my smoothbore whatever I choose. That way everything stays tightly packed.

Thomson Center .50 cal rifle questions

Recently I posted about getting a flintlock rifle. I decided I would do .45 caliber but my local gunshop has a Thompson Center .50 caliber for sale. It is a Thompson Center .50 caliber Pennsylvania Hunter. Its a flintlock and the tag says 1-66" rifle twist. The shop is asking $650 for it. It...

    Thompson Center 12 gauge question

I have been looking into getting a flintlock rifle and smoothbore. Recently my local gunshop got some muzzleloaders from a recent estate sale. The smoothbore that stood out the most was a Thompson Center New Englander. It was a percussion 12 gauge smoothbore. The gunsmith there said for $90 he...

Wanting to get a smoothbore flintlock

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I guess this smoothbore will be used on small game more than anything else. Worse comes to worse I can get a bigger one later on to hunt waterfowl. I dont want to use large bores on squirrels.

    Caliber choice for first rifle

Thanks for all the replies to this thread, looks like the common consensus here is .45 caliber. I definitely like the idea of the cost per shot and lighter recoil. I will be doing a lot of target shooting to get everything just right so that when the time comes to aim at a living animal I want...

    Caliber choice for first rifle

I would only be using the rifle for White Tails and Coyotes. Like I said in the post our Deer on the farm are typically 125lbs for Doe and 140lbs for Buck. Smallest caliber here is .40 in Maryland for deer.

Wanting to get a smoothbore flintlock

My earlier posts here on the forum were about trying to decide on a rifle or a smoothbore and I have decided to get one of each after all the feedback I got. I posted in the rifles thread to try and get some help deciding on either a .40, .45 or .50 caliber rifle. However, in this thread I am...

    Caliber choice for first rifle

I posted on this forum earlier about getting my first rifle and three calibers have been suggested to me. .40, .45 and .50 all have suggested and to be honest I can't make a decision. I don't have any muzzleloading supplies yet and wont buy any until I get my flintlock (Although I did buy 2lbs...

    Looking into my first muzzleloader

I may get some muzzleloading pistols and a percussion or flintlock SxS shotgun one day, for now one or two will suffice. I only own one firearm so I guess I still have room.

    Looking into my first muzzleloader

First off that is a pretty rifle, secondly I have never held a true long rifle before but wow are those things "long" rifles when you see them in contrast to a table or things in their vicinity. Do you have a price in mind for this rifle ?
