    Spanish Carbine, Part-3

I'd call it an escopeta, myself. Nice gun!

    Spanish Museum photo

I wonder if that's the sort of European matchlock that the Japanese copied - there are a LOT of similarities.

    Dixie "Jail Key" matchlock?

Got any photos? I have a junk .22 barrel from an old Stevens single shot. Already partially cut down when I got it, so it would be ideal.

    Dixie "Jail Key" matchlock?

Anybody here ever built the "jail key" matchlock pistol kit that Dixie Gunworks has offered for so many years? If so, have you actually fired it? It's been staring me in the face ever since I saw one in an old Dixie catalog, before I was in high school (though it was MUCH cheaper then...), but I...

Evaluation of a Made in India Enfield Smoothbore

IIRC, one of my Middlesex guns is "dated" '79! OTOH, they may be using the Islamic calendar...

    teppo/tanegeshima blueprints?

I am wondering, does anybody sell a set of prints/plans for a Japanese-style matchlock? The replicas are OK but a bit pricey (and I believe they've been discontinued). I can cut the costs a bit by building it myself and have a completely unique gun besides.

Evaluation of a Made in India Enfield Smoothbore

The barrel (maybe the whole gun) was made by Abdul Hakim Usta in Udaipur, India. My howdah pistol and blunderbuss from MVTC were made by the same manufacturer.

I use a shot snake with an Irish-type charger to use with my NWTG.

Let There Be Light: The Experimental Archaeologist Strikes

I have an old book called Nature Crafts by Ellsworth Jaeger (tenth printing, 1967) that tells how to make lamps like this, with either a twisted cloth or a mullein leaf for a wick. The book calls these "slush lamps".

    Flintlock to percussion pistols?

The mental picture that comes to mind (for me at least) is of a chihuahua puppy...or maybe a spaniel puppy...

    Flintlock to percussion pistols?

The howdah uses .600 balls, with a pillow-ticking patch. It could also use a charge of buckshot or birdshot with an appropriate wad. The blunderbuss, I only use buckshot in (which is what it was originally meant to fire anyway), but a .69 caliber bore would take a .680 ball, with about a .015...

    Flintlock to percussion pistols?

Best thing to do would be to call Middlesex and ask Pete Plunkett. He handles the technical questions. The phone number is on their website. Another option would be to have a machinist lathe-turn a larger nipple down to a smaller sixe so that a #11 cap would fit, if it takes the odd-sized...

    Flintlock to percussion pistols?

I bought the howdah pistol and the blunderbuss in early December. The howdah pistol had a MINOR problem with the right-hand lock, in that the hammer would catch at half-cock when I pulled the trigger. I was able to fix it myself with some careful filing, but I could just as easily have sent the...

    Flintlock to percussion pistols?

Middlesex Village Trading Company All of their guns are sold with the vents drilled, ready to fire. And they stand by the products they sell.

    Flintlock to percussion pistols?

1822 French percussion conversion 1850 Prussian percussion conversion Just because it's made in India, doesn't mean it's junk. I'm quite happy with the blunderbuss and howdah pistol I bought from them.
