    T/C Trouble's

You have a Seneca. The correct nipple size is 12-28.

    Rifle will not fire?

Ted Cash has a nipple wrench that I'm going to add to my tool kit. He calls it a "Yazel Nipple Wrench" and it looks like just the ticket for situations being discussed in this thread. Scroll down to the bottom of the linked page. It's just $9.00...

NO "KICKING IT UP A NOTCH"

My Seneca does have a half-cock but, like yours, it's just a little bit above the nipple. So, I'm going to suggest yours does have a half-cock after all. When the hammer is in this position it cannot be released by the trigger -- just as a half-cock should behave. As has been mentioned, this...

    Bore mops

I've used the same bore mop to clean the bores of two black powder rifles for more than two years and it's still clean. That's because I use it to pump dish-soapy water in and out through the nipple hole of a barrel immersed in a coffee can of of the dish-soapy water. Both barrel and mop end the...

    Trajectory question

I've found the round ball ballistics calculator described in these two links very useful. It will clarify trajectory questions. I use the downloaded Windows executable made available in the first link without getting on the internet. The second link provides the same functionality while on line...

    BRUSHING

Here's a link to the brush you want. You can buy it directly from the manufacturer if it's not in your local gun supplies outlet. I've also purchased several on eBay. https://www.proshotproducts.com/Black-Powder-Bore-Brushes_c_122.html

    Dumb question?

This chart is from Marble. It takes the mystery out of moving iron sights. The columns are the distances between the front and rear sights. The measurements indicate the amount needed to move the point of impact at 100 yards. Double the figure for 50 yards, etc.

American Pioneer Powder is Back in Business & Available

I've had very positive experiences with the stuff. I prefer to consider such an announcement about availability a service. This doesn't differ from telling folks where they can acquire real black, which is done here all the time.

Powder Weight vs volume? New to purcussion.

Some time ago, just to satisfy my curiosity, I set my measure to 100 grains and weighed that volume of four different substitute powders. My results are as follows . . . Pyrodex RS -- 100 gr = 85.5 gr (very old can) T7 fffg -- 100 gr = 86.6 gr T7 ffg -- 100 gr = 73.3 gr Black MZ -- 100...

    Pillow Ticking

I have been using a red-striped mattress ticking from Joann Fabrics for several years. It mics at about .012 or .013 and is perfect for .490 balls in my .50 TC Hawken. I've attached a link, but I can't be positive what's shown on site is exactly what I bought in the store. Take your measuring...

    Different caps "now",,,

There's a link to a complete article regarding cap dimensions somewhere on this forum, but I can't locate it right now. A summary of this discussion, though, is pretty well summarized in this chart.

    Unobtainable Percussion caps 😡

Addendum: I checked at Sportsman's Warehouse last night. They have a full stock of musket caps and quite a few #10 and #11, all CCI.

    Unobtainable Percussion caps 😡

Right after the initial riots the cupboards in the major gun stores were immediately bare. Modern guns, ammunition, and reloading supplies -- particularly primers -- were nowhere to be found. At that same time both the Scheel's and Sportsman's Warehouse where I shop were also divested of their...

    Triple 7 FFFg

I have played with Triple 7 in both ff and fff in my TC Hawken and never experienced any ignition problems with the stock TC nipples. I never experienced charred patches, either. For a substitute I personally prefer Black MZ, of which I have a substantial supply. So my remaining Triple 7 supply...
