    Wondering about ramrods

Mmmm, obviously I need to reword my thought. I’m curious about how often someone has seen or read about muzzleloaders with a wooden ramrod a person (frontiersman or such) whittled from a tree branch or other piece of wood due to a broken ramrod. No brass ends, basically just a stick. Does...

    Wondering about ramrods

I’m curious about how often a person (frontiersman or such) would have had to replace a broken ramrod with something whittled from a tree branch or other piece of wood. No brass ends, basically just a stick.

    Unusual buck this weekend

This is the first deer I’ve taken with this particular load using a TC Maxi Hunter. I was impressed with the way it took the deer down. In the past I’ve used round ball and patch ALOT and will still use that in the future. I started this year trying the TC Maxiball but did not like the fact...

    Unusual buck this weekend

Saw this guy feeding about an hour before sunset this past Saturday evening. Was able to get about 50-75 yards in front of him and setup behind a deadfall oak tree. He took about 10 minutes to work his way down to me, about 25 yards away giving me a broadside shot. Shooting offhand was able to...

Had an opportunity to show a newbie how to recover from loading a “dry” ball

Went to the range today with a friend who purchased a new inline, we worked on getting it sighted in and had great success with that. Afterwards we went to the pistol area to shoot my Traditions Trapper. After several shots I put a cap on and fired… no smoke! I put on another cap and… no smoke...

Back up pistol in same caliber?

@Dale Allen Raby I have tried to come up with the same solution, nothing yet. I look at my possibles bag and try to figure out how to carry my Trapper without ruining the function and looks of my bag.

Back up pistol in same caliber?

@SantiamSam i hunt with an old TC Hawken .50 backed up by a Traditions Trapper .50. The powder (3F black), ball, and percussion cap are all interchangeable and only the patches are specific to each gun. I carry the pistol (uncapped) in a holster I made for it and only cap it when I need to...

    Percussion Cap brands

At the range I use CCI, have had enough misfires I will not depend on them for hunting. For the last three seasons I’ve used Winchester Magnum #11 for hunting with 100% reliability (so far).

    Traditions Trapper Thanksgiving Doe

@Spikebuck Interesting you say that because that is my exact viewpoint as well. You have to do your best to make everything work to get them CLOSE, it adds another element to the sport and for me, I think it gives the deer a fair chance.
