FOR SALE Hawken Half Stock Rifle. Reduced

I wonder why they'd drill all the way through? Maybe to make the barrels ambidextrous from a rifle building point of view?

FOR SALE Hawken Half Stock Rifle. Reduced

Could someone tell me the reason for the hole opposite the snail, with the allen screw in it?

Tree Hawk Update/P Davis in VA.

70 yards. I think the two whingerdangers are from torn patches. 16 of the 18 look good. All would be deer killers at my hunting ranges. Using a six o'clock hold on the black. 70 grains 3F Schuetzen, .530 ball, .022 canvas patch with bore butter. I'll quit with this post now!!! PD

Closing in. The two low ones are me, I think.

Another CVA Mountain Rifle ... almost for free!

Thanks for showing us the design anomaly that makes these CVA's so hard to de-breech. How hard to remove the drum? Glad you got it, please keep us posted. Pete Davis

Ball Bearing crown job. 75, then 80 gn of 3F Schuetzen @ 70 yds. Ticking patch. Getting there now. Still can improve-maybe my eyes. PD

    CVA mountain

I think CVA did a run of these rifles around 1988-90 that were much up-priced. They'd been discontinued for a few years. Wonder if this barrel would be from one of those.

    Over Powder Wad Question

I use bore butter until I run out. I have tons of bear fat and bees wax here, I am sure I could make my own stuff. I worry about a lubed wad dampening the powder charge over extended loaded periods. PD

    Over Powder Wad Question

Felt wad, commercial, over a 80 grain 3F charge in a .54 rifle. Speculative at this point. I am wondering if this might shrink a few flyers. PD

    Over Powder Wad Question

Should the premade over powder wads be dry or greased? They sell them either way. PD

CVA Mountain rifle with stainless barrel?

    I think it's a Deer Creek Kit.

1981 CVA Big Bore Mountain Rifle

I posted this up a few years ago before the admins merged my accounts. Can't find the old post. I bought this CVA Big Bore Mtn Rifle in Alaska in 1981. It was a kit that I put together with a "screwdriver and a pocket knife." Well that's all the tools that the guy at Ander's Cache told me that...

    Old Ball Starter ???

I got this starter in Alaska in 1981. It has a steel spindle, brass ends and a bore guide. Any idea who made it? The shop sold CVA stuff. Pete Davis

CVA Mountain rifle with stainless barrel?

I'd say someone built that up with parts from Deer Creek. Looks like a Hawken barrel on a Mtn Rifle stock. Utilitarian for sure! Interesting.
