    New vintage 1860 Army replicas

In response to this; It’s plain untruthful to intimate an Uberti is not a gun to shoot. Timing and lockwork issues—resulting in peened cylinders, off-center hammer strikes, off-center chamber ignition caused by insufficient cylinder lock up, and, yes, endshake variation—along with loose...

This is correct; the warning does not refer to pure black powder, it’s an abbreviation for “black powder and black powder substitutes” which is what is said in the manuals, wherein loading and volume instructions are given—so let’s at least be thankful they didn’t go fully in the vein of...

    New vintage 1860 Army replicas

Seems my comments have stirred up the hornets. First thing’s first; Uberti is also stamped black powder only, and has been for quite a long time, at least 30 years, BUT; it’s on the bottom of the barrel, under the loading lever, where it is invisible until you are loading the gun, or...

I would say uberti is still a better gun. I’ve no experience in this but allegedly there are slightly better barrel/cylinder and action tolerances, even with the arbor issue, and usually a nicer finish. Piettas are fine, not having to tune the arbor is intrinsically very nice, and the gap...

I beg your pardon but do you mean the higher end retailers have a better level of finish? What do you mean by “they may require” one?

    SOLD weeping heart tomahawk

It’s easy enough to tell if something is hand forged—I should add that most mass produced “antiquated” weapons like this are still hand forged, just using modern techniques and tools, as opposed to being produced via machines on a production line like a gerber knife, for example. Being whacked...

Looks like a standard ogive lee conical to me.

    Uberti 2nd model Dragoon.

When it was produced, if I recall correctly, it was $600 MSRP in 1998, but were often sold for less, practically couldn’t be given away. They only made them for a short period on account of their abject financial failure, and so they’re probably rare now and also certainly have no spare parts...

That functional safety part can’t be overstated, by the way. I read a report that SAA-type, safety-less models of pistol are responsible for the overwhelming majority of ND incidents with pistols—while that report didn’t cite external sources, I am inclined to believe it; kinda crazy colt never...

Like I said at the end there, they did just that with the Colt Cowboy—in my opinion a superior SAA with better lockwork and a functional safety, and priced competitively with Uberti. It sold like mud in a bucket.

Jeeze, pal! I only just got done apologizing a minute ago! 😫 But truly, it is. I got big feet, but I surprise myself with how easy I can fit them into my mouth, sometimes.

    Uberti 2nd model Dragoon.

Y’know, I have since given it some thought and realize I came out of the gate stumbling on that one. Heck, so far I only own Italian guns, myself, and I know a tuned Uberti is certainly a fine pistol. I guess it just… irks me, that so much effort was put into the materials and tolerances of...

Some information for those interested in buying the 1859 Sharps (Be it from Chiappa or Pedersoli)

Howdy Mr. Eras, I have the .45 ‘63 Sharps and I don’t know which bullet to use. Any recommendations?

    Uberti 2nd model Dragoon.

Hyperbole! I assure you I have nothing against uberti steel. The gun steel italian mfg’s use isn’t very hard wearing or high quality, which is fine and understandable at the price point of the guns and especially given their being black powder, but considering how much 2nd gen colts command...

    Uberti 2nd model Dragoon.

Well, I’ll eat my hat. What a… a waste, frankly—you’re sayin the most important parts of the damn gun, cylinder and barrel, are made out of italiano pot metal but they went and made the rest of them BY HAND?! That’s nuts. And not exactly in a good way. Especially because the frame is easily the...
