    CVA Plainsman

There is nothing wrong with your breech plug. I have three CVAs with the same breech plugs, a Mountain Stalker, Bobcat in .54 and a Plainsman in .50. The Plainsman I took in a trade and thought the barrel was toast. I used green scratcher pads with a .45 jag and valve grinding paste and it...

    Ball Size For .54 Smoothie

I patch the balls for all my smoothbores, I get the best accuracy and don't have to put a over shot card or anything over the powder. Shooting with a well lubed patch also lets me shoot without swabbing the barrel till I am done shooting.

    Specific jag for loading?

I I have steel rods on my military rifles and after 4 decades of use I have not had a issue with steel rods.

    Specific jag for loading?

If your jag has room to go down the barrel with a patch it should be no problem. I use a jag when just target shooting and the rod end when hunting, If you are worried just leave the jag off and just use the loading rods.

    Who's got the best lube?

I use TOTW mink oil for all my shooting, it won't leak into the powder if left loaded for a while when hunting. I don't swab between shots ever with any of my front stuffers.

    New to Muzzleloading

Welcome from Wisconsin. Looks like a lot of fun, but be carful of that dowel as a ramrod, it is best to get a strait grain hickory, or a Derlin rod. I get my ramrods from Track of the Wolf or Log Cabin shop, they both have good selections of both. I have a TOTW Derlin rod with a .54 cleaning jag...

I am sorry, but I don't belong to any club and most of my old shooting buds are mostly not shooting any more. Did you google Muzzelloading clubs in your area, a couple of years ago I googled for Muzzelloading events in my area and got like three events right in my area.
