    Just plain old fashioned fun

And a couple more pix- Part of our unit at opening. This is a modified version of the "pigeon board". Scoring is simple, hit the pigeons, miss the tiles, clocks running and you're shooting offhand with a Civil War musket. Hit tiles are a penalty. And we set this up as a reminder that many...

    Just plain old fashioned fun

Well, the Palmetto Sharpshooters (N-SSA) shot in a small match and had a ball. Smoothbore and Carbine then break for lunch and then into the musket match. Good times with good friends

Odd results; bench vs. offhand shooting

Bench technique can have a huge effect on group size out of our rifles- how you grip the rifle, where you rest the barrel, how you sit, all factor into it.

    Is FFFG the Cause

If you are happy with the accuracy, why worry about patch condition. I have rifle that leaves patches looking like dirty lint balls but the gun shoots just fine.

Need help with 1858 Enfield clone.

That's the Lee version of the Rapine Trashcan. Sadly, Lee has discontinued this mold.

Need help with 1858 Enfield clone.

Great start. Time to begin tweaking the load. What was your load for this group?

So you want to know about sights?

Sooo, with all the discussion of sights, as said in the immortal words of Monty Python, and now for something completely different- Musket is a repop 1863 Springfield by Miroku that has been used and abused by reenactors. The "guts" of the rear sight base were missing so in true red neck...

    Advice for N-SSA carbine

So did you go to the Recruit Skirmish? Lots of opportunity to try different things.

    some whitworth shooting

Did you use any anti seize on it? I put a dab of white lithium on the threads on mine and have never had an issue.

    some whitworth shooting

Keep an eye on the nipple. Whitworths are hard on them and they're considered a wear item.

    Accuracy standard

100yd Parker Hale Musketoon. Load data is on the white diamond 10lb Parrott Rifled howitzer. We've done better 😁 There's 5 shots in the 4 ring. The photo doesn't give an indication of the light conditions. We were breaking out flashlights about 30min after this pic was taken.

    Accuracy standard

I'd say it depends on a number of factors. Some muzzleloaders are quite capable of it in the right hands but some guns will never be capable of it. One thing I do insist on is using group size at a known distance when discussing accuracy. Just saying "I can kill deer" or "I can hit a gong"...

    Sharps failures. Suggestions?

The flash hole in the nipple is critical. An eroded nipple or enlarged flash hole can easily lead to misfires. Let's correct a few things here- there is NO bolster on a Sharps. It's a Falling block unlike a regular muzzleloader there is NO "clean out" screw on a Sharps. It's a hole that must...
