    Tack Driver Shooting....

In the 70's we did a turkey shoot at our club, when everyone thought they were Jeremiah Johnson, suspended a frozen bird by butcher cord at an appropriate distance, think it was 50 yards and you put a buck in the pot and tried to cut the string, next up took a turn, took quite a few tries , the...

    Antique T/C Maxi-Ball Couple questions

Shot my first deer over 40 years ago with one of those out of a 1-66 twist CVA Mountain Rifle, I also had a mold for 250 grain Lee REAL slugs which supposedly should have shot better out of the slow twist barrel, they didn't , go figure :). I rolled my own , never tailor mades.

Is there a best caliber for a Hawken style black powder rifle?

I shoot a .50 TC Hawken, it shoots well with moderate charges behind a round ball for paper and reactive targets and if you want to go after big game a 370 grain Maxi with shoot lengthwise through most critters in North America with a good charge. Also got a .36 Seneca which is real stingy on...

What kind of accuracy should I expect TC Hawken

Like others have said, that is about average for your setup. I have a Lyman 48 peep and a 17 hooded front sight on mine and still around 3 inches at 100 yds, but it will drop 3 Maxi's into 1 1/2 inches when my eyes were younger at 100.

    CVA Mountain rifle

I think all the Big Bores were Spanish, they were not offered initially but came out after production has moved.

    Battle of the Forty

This is a couple of minute walk from my home, lots of history in the area https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DpxYV-nhyc&list=FLX7zLRNDN5LQ2hfLG3mn9dQ&index=52

    T/C Seneca or Cherokee

I shoot a .36 Seneca, T/C was really crazy with the published loads for this rifle, starting load of 40 gr and top load of 60 for both the RB and Maxi :nono: I found a spent 38 special casefull a nice load maybe 25 gr. , cocked the hammer a few time going by TC's data. FWIW 60 is almost the...

    TC peep question

For that coin I'd just get the Lyman 57, better sight in my experience.

    Peep for White Mountain Carbine?

To get the increased depth of field and sharpening of the sight picture that a peep sight provides to older eyes the aperture needs to be close to the shooters eye ie. mounted on the tang. I really don't think there would be much advantage to the original poster with the peep mounted in the...

    Peep for White Mountain Carbine?

I use a Lyman 57 as well but like the look of these, T/C used to market something very similar in the past but they are scarcer than hen's teeth and/or ridiculously priced. You are still going to have to drill and tap...

Used... or basically new T/C renegade find

There was not a deluxe model , just the regular Renegade and also one called the " Renegade Hunter" which as far as I can see the only difference being it had a single trigger , no double set like the regular Renegade.

    Casting Maxi-Balls

I have the best luck with Maxi's using a Lyman dipper instead of the bottom pour of my Lyman pot. Actually , of all my molds , some do best with the sprue in contact bottom pour spout (pressure pour), some do best with the bottom pour and a little separation from the sprue plate, and some do...

advice needed CVA Mountain Rifle .54

OK, was not aware of the changes other than made in Spain, mine is an old American made 50 cal., 4 screw patchbox and octogon ramrod pipes, believe I got it in 76 or 77 and got my first deer with it. Think the big bores came later after the move in production .

advice needed CVA Mountain Rifle .54

I too would like to see the pics, it really doesn't sound like a Big Bore CVA Mountain Rifle, what with the blued finish and aluminum castings.

    This is not a rabbit!

We've got the same hare here in southern Ontario, they were really numerous about 50 years ao and still quite common. They were transplanted here(probably by the same people that thought Starlings and Carp were a good idea :td: ) and I believe Australia as well where they did really well I...
