What mistakes have you noticed in movies/tv shows that happen in the BP era like Daniel Boone, Patriot etc?

Nope. I remember seeing the episode. Percussion lock plains rifle he leans against a tree loaded, stage of cock not remembered. It falls and hits him in the torso. Remainder of episode revolves around his survivàl while seeking help. Caplock still being used at time by settlers not that unusual...

The Search for a Vintage Cornbread

Very interesting, Dave , and in keeping with what I have learned from members of some of the old Colonial and early Federalist-period families of tbe Carolinas, esp. SOUTH CAROLINA. This gentleman, who purchased the Peden rifle I had discussed on this forum last year. He immediately identified...

The Search for a Vintage Cornbread

It has to do with stages of settlement in a given area... Boone, for instance, was an early settler on the Yadkin in colonial NC, while spending months as a longhunter further west in the Kain-tuck-ee.... Eventually, he led settlers into that area (losing his oldest son James in the process,)...

The Search for a Vintage Cornbread

Getting back to the original cornbread question... Are we talking about "first wave" longhunters, "second wave" pioneer settlers, or the folks afterward in communities with trading posts, early general stores, or what? I suspect cornbread likely changed over time, as more supplies became...

    Kibler Pennsylvania Rifles

AAELAHHH! (No cuss words in Creek...) I paid $200 more than that for a cherry-stocked .54 Colonial 2 years ago, not nearly as well-finished, and considered it a good buy... still do, if that says anything about yours.

I know DGW's TMR came only in .50 or .32, but this isn"t specifically a Southern gun, and I don"t find the caliber in text and can't find it in pics...?

    Rifle vs. Smoothbore

Ever shoot a flying bird or scampering rabbit w/ a rifle? Or try to figure out what you are going to eat off a squirrel you shot in the body w/ a .50 or greater cal. PRB? If small, moving, and/or close game is the quarry, smoothbores generally win.

What mistakes have you noticed in movies/tv shows that happen in the BP era like Daniel Boone, Patriot etc?

I Not trying to be ugly here, but... 1. Actually, many smaller-caliber guns WERE carried at that time, as the more finely-refined powder allowed equal ballistics with smaller projectiles. 2. I am not familiar with which of his guns Crockett carried in the final defense of the Alamo, but he DID...

    My first attempt at Rococo

In fluent Southern.... DA- YUMMM. DUDE! THAT is absolutely STUNNING, regardless of the time the artist has been doing this! I think I'll just sneak off to my corner of the woods and make do with what little contour incision I can hold steady enough to do, embellished with a bit of 'skin brass...
