Which Pedersoli Tryon to get for target shooting? (.50 or .54)

Little slow in getting in on the conversation, but here goes. I shot a 50 caliber Trails Gun Armory Tryon for many years in the 80's thru early 90's, open sights and if I did my part she was good to 125 yard. .490 prb, .015 patching with 65 gr. 3f. was my best target load. 85 gr. of powder on...

Using an electric pot for casting balls

I have been using the same 10 lb. bottom pour since 1975. I personally have never had my pot empty out on it's own but it will drip while heating. I have cut a small tin can to fit under the spout to catch what leaks. I did have a friend who's pot leaked out all over his bench a couple of times...

Conicals work in a 1:66” twist?

Played around with this years past. Used 2 rifles, both 50's one a TC Hawken and the other a Tryon. The hawken with the faster twist "1 in 48" seem to do fine with the conicals out to about 75 yards. The Tryon with the slower rate of twist "1 in 66" and deeper rifling just didn't care for them...

    Hello the camp!

Howdy from Benton Co. Arkansas! I was bit by the muzzle bug back in 1975 by a brown bess for sale at the local hardware store. "Ya I bought it and was doomed from there". I been a beaver eater for many years with cap popers, but now find myself being pulled to earlier times and the flinters of...
