Tell me of your cleaning rituals

Thanks! It's always fun to get several of your hobbies to come together. I spent more time on the design to make it look original yet get all those kits etc to fit nicely in the box than I did actually building the box. To answer your question ...

Tell me of your cleaning rituals

Cleaning goes pretty quick. I go into the shop and fire up the steamer to get it to warm up. It's filled with distilled water for the season. Then I go and slap it down in the workbench I made which holds and - felt lined cradles - protects it while I tap the barrel pins out, remove the...

    Question on small chain connectors?

If it were me, I'd drill a plate with holes and insert bar or bolts the size of the loops and weld on the backside (15min). Hold it in a vise. Then just get the right size wire and bend around in a figure "8". Trim, hammer, dress etc. You could make them 'till the cows come home.

    Flat Horn Flask Project

I just had a shoulder-vise screw (Lee Valley 70G0151) that I was going to use for something else that I changed my mind on kicking around. Figured it was a good use for it. I'm sure your bottle jack will be fine Keep up the great posts! Flat horns are nice.

    Flat Horn Flask Project

FWIW here's one I made for when I get into it. It's made from heavy channel and a screw jack. The channel, where it will contact the horn, is covered with blank PCB material (fiberglass) I had kicking around. The square tube columns are welded to the base and the angle iron top is bolted to the...

    Gun Lost :’(

You said it bother. I got shipped short on a $300 servo-motor kit. Small but crucial part missing. That was back in Oct. After some haranging customer service finally mailed this $5 part in Dec (today's tracking attached). I finally got fed up and I've since gone out in my shop and welded up my...

    Powder RE packaging

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leyden_jar (The Leyden jar is a high-voltage device; it is estimated that at a maximum the early Leyden jars could be charged to 20,000 to 60,000 volts) Anything very insulative can build up a charge across it.

    Leaving a loaded powder horn?

Do you have a lawnmower? Do you store gas for it? If so I bet your gas can isn't empty Blackpowder = 3MJ/kg Gasoline =47.5MJ/kg Gas packs ~16 times the energy BP has. I have a shop with eight reserve 5 gal containers full of diesel in it and I'm not worried in the least.

    Trade whiskey

The thing most people gloss over is distillation does not produce anything that wasn't already there (in the beer or wine). Distillation is a refining process. Beer & wine making create the "poisons" (& is perfectly legal) and yet most people have no qualms about drinking those. Distillation can...

    Cleaning Issue Solved?

Well I often feel it's like explaining the car to buggy drivers. Nothing wrong with buggies...but.... Another thing I've done to help cleaning is make workbenches to aid in disassembly. Years ago Rob Andrews was making them for Brown Bess's but when I contacted him he had no issue with me...
