    Priming flask

I just finished up a little priming flask. Whitetail antler, ebony end cap, poured pewter ferrule. I'm trying to decide whether to keep the crude scrimshaw, or sand it off. I made this as a prototype, thinking I could sell them. After I figured out what I have in it, and my time, I'd have to...

    Best round ball mold?

I really like the ones made by Larry Callahan. I have two of them, and been extremely pleased with them.

    Powder horn funnel

You might laugh at this .. but I just roll a small piece of paper into a cone, throw a piece of scotch tape on it to hold together, and start filling. Been doing that for 40 years. To fill my Colt pistol flask, I do the same, but I cut off the end of a 300 weatherby mag casing, to make a little...

Left eye dominant, right hand dominant?

Back in the late 70s when I shot competition trap (with an unmentionable) there was an old boy who was right handed, left eyed. He shot his rifles right handed, and shut his left eye to get the sights lined up. Shotgun, he shot left handed, since both eyes are imperative ( hell, you could use...

Hawken Rifles, What's All The Hoopla?!

What I find amusing, is that many of the "Hawken" reproductions look a whole lot more like a Dimick rifle, than those of his major competitor, the Hawken brothers. Both were in St. Louis, and were after the same market.

    Toeplate detail question

I stole this picture from another thread, because I didn’t want to highjack a for sale post. This is an original Ohio rifle, showing the detail of the buttplate meeting the toeplate. I’ve never seen one where the buttplate was filed to match the toeplate; always the other way around. Seems...

    Carrying pre lubed patches

I keep mine in an Altoids tin. Not historically correct at all, but it works. I lube my patches with olive oil.

    Wire inlay hunter's star?

Very nice, Dave. I kinda figured that if I had thought of it, somebody else would have too.

    Wire inlay hunter's star?

I was thinking of doing exactly that. I have a piece of scrap cherry around somewhere... I was just wondering if anybody else ever had the same idea. The rifle project is a few months out, but I like to have everything planned out well in advance.

    Wire inlay hunter's star?

Has anyone ever done a hunter's star with only wire inlay? Or even seen one, for that matter? I'm thinking it would be much less glaring than the typical brass inlay, for a relatively simple long rifle.

SOLD Small flint lock for pistol, or small rifle

This pretty little lock is in new/unused condition. The hole for the lock bolts have not been drilled. Lock plate is marked “Blount Co.” Lock plate measures 4 5/8”. It is no longer made. I purchased this lock many years ago for a rifle project, but realized after inletting that it was too...
