    Hunting load for .62 cal?

Working on hunting load for my .62 cal. I was shooting 3 f today instead of my normal 2 f, same load 80 grains, both group well. The 3f would impact 1 1/2" higher than the 2f. I'm fine with the results, just didn't expect there to be that much difference in impact? (target distance 60 yds)...

Bad year for acorns around here...

No acorns in my area of NC. Headed to KY next week and no acorns to report in that area, and oaks are all I have to hunt.

    Velocity Goex 3f???

I shoot a Austin Halleck caplock 1:28 twist and have been playing around with Barnes 250 grain expander. In Barnes info they list a 90 grain goex 2f load with avg. velocity of 1463fps. What would be a velocity estimate for a 90 grain 3f load? I have found this has been the tightest grouping...

    ballets

They work great for me, have been using about five years. The 270 grain 50 cal. I couldn't get the 245 grain to group for me. I would watch for the ballet coming off the powder, I haven't had an issue with them, but it is possible.

    C. H. Johnston Great Western Gun Works

Those are two great looking guns. I really like the Walnut with the silver. I also like Fleeger's rifle No 21. May have to save up my money and see if someone can recreate it.

    C. H. Johnston Great Western Gun Works

This book, The Longrifles of Western Pennsylvania has some info. and pictures regarding Great Western Gunworks. I have one with straight grain stock but with German silver. It is a good shooter with adjustable rear sight. Appears to be factory installed sight, which I thought was unusual.
