What to do with a pitted bore?

I’ve a rifle with pitting, just shoot it. If it’s not too close to the muzzle, won’t make a bit of difference in accuracy. Just make sure to clean it well after to keep them from worsening.

    Percussion rifle identifcation

Looks like SH WAR... Could mean warranted. The patch box looks similar to an old hawken. If it’s a replica it’s old. Try a green light. I’ve used green LED flashlights to try and decipher engine plates to get faded out model and serial numbers on old tractors to order parts. Something about...

Quick question on pillow ticking trimming

Square cut. I take my lady’s scissors and cut about 1 1/4 “ squares. Take my lube mix while it’s hot, then soak about 100 patches. Then squeeze the manure out of them then let it cool. It only matters if your looking for same hole types of shots. Other than that, I’d doubt you’d notice any...

Advice on removing nipple and barrel needed

One thing that works is heat. Not a torch, but your oven. Remove all the wood, set it in the oven at about 275 for about an hour. Using wood blocks or a brass or nylon hammer give the barrel threads several light sharp smacks, making sure not to deform any metal. Use a good penetrating oil, or...

    Patch, And Ball Size Suggestions?

I have that exact same rifle. For short range target work 3f or pyrodex p at a 40 grain charge works great. That fast rate of spin actually allows down to about 20 grain. Makes for good plinking all day without a sore shoulder. When you decide to up it I’ve used up to 80, but after that it...

Max load for .32 Traditions Crockett

My old CVA .32 is listed to a max of 50 grn. Only did that enough to find out that at that load I’d be lucky to hit the ground if I aimed at it. Generally 20 to 30 grn is about going to be your best range. Any more then your cleaning the bore after every shot. Besides, even at those loads you’ll...

    BP Substitute Questions

One thing you can do to keep up the potency, put silica gel packs in with it after you open up a jug. I keep about 10 in mine. It will get weak if it sits too long before you use it all up. Personal experience. If used with a good lube it will shoot all day without totally swabbing the bore out...

    CVA interchangle parts

I've a cva frontier carbine, and cva mountain stalker pro and everything interchanges. One has a 26" barrel and the other a 24". Other than one having ceracoat and a 1/ 32" twist and the other 1/48" twist they are the same.

    Please don't shoot the messenger.

Not one to repeat someone else, I was curious as to if this was what it was. Went out today with my CVA Frontier carbine to test. Used for the test was 385 Buffalo bullets. I drilled out the skirts to see what would happen. Pyrodex P, RS, and Goex ffg were used. My standard load for this...

    Please don't shoot the messenger.

The pressure curves are different between black and pyrodex. Black hits hard creating max pressure sooner, expanding the skirt better. Pyrodex has a curve where peak pressure comes on nearer to the middle of the burn. Some instances not expanding the skirt fully. He'd have to use a tighter minie...

    CVA Mountain Rifle Cap Lock

one secret I've found is to keep the lock loose until the barrel is mounted. then just tighten the lock till the screws are just snug, not tight. if there are still issues check behind the hammer on the wood. the hammer may be just rubbing making a small gouge in the shape of an arch. My...

    Remington 1858 powder measures

All depends on what you need. Mines a farm gun. At that load, Will slam a hole like nothing else. Wierd too. It's a SS palmetto. Those are supposed to be junk. Locks tight, cylinder's line perfect. Shines like a Colt Python. Beat the hell out of it. It's my go to. Can't seem to overload it. Fits...

    Remington 1858 powder measures

First time posting here. Mine is dead accurate with 20 grains volume pyrodex rs. However, 40 of pyrodex p, gets me 4" groups at 25 yds. Just think that's 75 feet. Good for a revolver. I use round ball.
