    I don't like to use a ball starter.

    back in the 80'sand 90s I shot in about 40 matches a year in three states. never did I see any one not using a short starter win a match or even place.

    i use the msn super rods for loading and cleaning. have one I bought in 85 still gong strong. used it the whole time we had matches everywhere. would shoot in two 50-60 shoots every week.

    Minie for hunting

    shot with a few n-ssa shooters they used their rifles for deer none of them ever lost a deer. could it be because they could shoot or the ,58 ? I use a .45 round ball never lost a deer. cal. has less to do with it then being able to shoot.

    Front sights on old muzzleloaders

    I have shot some of the old original rifles. the sights were not a problem and if the barrels were good they shot just as good as the new rifles.

    I was speaking from experience I took one out for a rebore one to fresh out the old way one to make a smooth bore. all went back together with no problems. I made witness marks to make it easier to get the back together.

    Changing Calibers on Muzzleloaders

    yes it is easy if you have a half stock. like a lyman gpr or a t-c hawken. I started with a gpr in .50 then got a .40 cal. barrel for it. can switch them around with no problems.
