    n.y. youth hunt

Yet it was the NYB that stood in the way of the Youth Hunt and almost destroyed the event permanently. It took some maneuvering to get that through and still end up with the legal use of the crossbow. The Crossbow and NYS Muzzleloaders need to form a coalition with several other clubs and hunters...

    Parts for old hand planes

Amazing "Guns" how many people are rabid "plane" collectors. I started at a Barn sale in Highland NY 30 years ago and I'm still looking and buying. Of course prices are now out of sight in comparison to the few busk I spent for a woodworkers box of planes back then. Recently I have started...

    n.y. youth hunt

Your "muzzleloading only" season, or better a "primitive muzzleloading season" are in the hands of an unlikely group in NYS. They are the NYS Bowhunters ASS.---who have opposed anything that interferes with "Their" Arhery Season. This is a relatively small group (2500) with a long history of Big...

New work on an old project.

Oh yeh, you're far from knowing what you are doing. Until you make a really nice gun I will be glad to house this poor miscreant gun. I may not turn the lights on when my friends come to my house. :rotf: :rotf: "Doc"

    pot de fer ?

Reckon'I might stand corrected according to Wikipedia and the use of "fer" for a canon barrel. However "Pot de feux" is a term I used to speak of a pot of fire a/k/a early fire grenade. The term "petard" , a form of pot de feux refers to another earlier form of thrown munitions, in which a fuse...

    pot de fer ?

Pardon my intrusion I think the expression you are looking for is "pot du feux", hasty translation---"pot of fire". :hmm: "Doc"

    Crockett rifle

Ya know it is a cheaper gun, but mine is quite good looking. I have dulled the brass, removed the bluing, and gave the barrel a good mustard and vinegar bath. A good wipe down of the stock with a remover followed by some sanding and a True oil finish---she looks much nicer with a "traditional"...

    Frustrations with my used TVM

From the looks of the "dovetail, it looks like someone took a hammer and screwdriver to it and just whaled away. All their rifles have the word "Avance" on the barrel---I own three of their rifles one finer than the other (confusing story). >>>>"Doc"

    Bottom pour vs ladle casting

I can understand your frustration with the LEE pot. However your problem is obviously (to me any way)the pouring rod which is activated by the lever. Clean up the mess and save the lead, cut it into smaller pieces obviously. Connect your pot and turn to #3-4 on the gauge and when the pouring rod...

    Leather Ballbag - photo tutorial

 Thanks for sharing, always wondered how it's done. I like what you make and it's at ideal piece for our hobby. Whilst I won't be making my own it just shows the process for future reference. :hatsoff: "Doc"

    Matchlock Lighting Technique

I saw a reenactment in Hohenfels Germany a few years back and the Matchlock infantry group used a hand full of smoking dried grass with slow match cord wound around the bundles. They passed the smoking bundles between them to light their match cords. Non- historically they also lit their cigars...

    First(feeble) Attempt from parts assembly...

Why do people always wear the "hair shirt" of self deprecation when introducing something they have made? Ya done good !!!! I wouldn't be ashamed of claiming that gun as mine, in fact if you still feel that way, I can relieve your woeful pangs of conscience ---I'll e-mail you my address---I'd be...
