    Sourdough bread from home-made starter

interesting thread as I've never tried to carry starter on a 'trek' which I no longer can undertake - shot knees and lower back. I inherited a family heirloom which is a cast iron deep skillet about 7" dia with a lid that can also be used as fry pan - the pot is likely Civil war era but maybe...

    Fire starters? 🔥 🔥

matches were available even before percussion caps were, and they weren't the flimsy ones like the strike on box sort to be had nowadays. obviously Boone didn't have them during his voyaging but I'll say that Crockett had access to them. likely a bit costly back then though. I have a screw-lid...

    Egg plant

there's a recipe for it made into a spread using roasted garlic, OVO, salt and seasonings. I bought some canned year or so back - good stuff on toasted Italian bread with parmesan. I like Italian bread, not French though it's all air. I've got a paper recipe for it somewhere but sure could be...

    Lamb Stew, anybody?

I'm fond of lamb (or mutton) roasted in my grill/cooker that I use wood lit with propane first, then I turn the gas to 'low'. the coals do the actual cooking. sort of a mess to clean out about 1ce monthly but worth the trouble IMO. I like to rub the meat with an herb and salt/pepper seasoning...

Patched round balls or conicals for big game?

it's been years back I went with a group of fellows that hunted bear with dogs, oft time going at night. 2 of the ol' timers had muzzlers, one a sxs 12 ga the other a .50 capper. others had modern cartridge guns - I carried my ROA loaded with max charge 3f and conical cast slug. never ran one to...

    ramps

just barely out of the cover, looking forward to gathering a mess. I fry up a mess for a meal with bacon, tater and couple eggs, and pickle a wide-mouth pint jar of them. good with soup beans.
