    12 bore build almost finished

I am having a 12 bore percussion rifle built,28inch barrel, open sights,it's going to be very pretty. I know the max load I was given by the maker was 275grs powder and a 550gr 12 bore ball. I don't think I'll be needing that much 777 powder, but it's nice to know its that strong. I have a...

1137 vs 12L14 for muzzleloader barrels

Intended use is a 12 bore muzzleloading rifle. 250grs powder, 6-700gr conicals just like they used in Africa in the 1800s. I was given a choice in 12l14 and 4140 I picked 4140 for corrosion resistance and proof strength.

1137 vs 12L14 for muzzleloader barrels

Lol it's irresponsible not to care what your stuff is made of.if it didn't matter they wouldn't have different levels of steel.12l14 has very little corrosion resistance compared to 4140 and is inferior in every way.im running the max powder load and heavy conical with 777,a corrosive powder...

    Pressure of my 12 bore?

Well thanks for your advice! I called the barrel company and they gave me the option of 12L14steel or 4140 steel. I chose 4140 and have to pay more, but at least I'll know it isn't going to bust. Pressure of my 12 bore?

I don't find the recoil that jarring but im not pushing a ball like you.777 is just cleaner burning to me so i can see if the deer ran.i use 300 in the 8 bore for shooting and it's a big push.instead of a whipcrack like my .375i don't mind it. I'll consider the 1f
