    Does traditions Crocket come in .36? I thought .32 was the only offering. YOu can get Santa Fe Hawkens in .36 over at Muzzle-loaders.com. They are basically the same gun that comes in .50 and .54, so the barrel is 15/16" across-the-flats. But the listed weight is only 7.6#s. I don't know...

    You are correct. Too much powder will turn a .32 into Hell on squirrels - my son and I learned that our first time out. But if we tone down the powder charge it performs more like a .22lr.

    Maximum speed with Black powder

    My son and I saw repeated shots over a chronograph exceed 2300 fps. That was a .45 patched ball from a 28” Cabela’s Hawken. The charge was nothing outrageous - something like 70grns Swiss. Can’t remember if it was ffG or fffG.

    So this is not lead styphinate? I think primers for cartridge guns use lead styphinate which spews lead dust in the air (I suspect more so than the bullets themselves). What does CCI et.al. use in their percussion caps?

    You aren't understanding the post. This is about hunting. If you hunt in humid climates, fouling in the pan will draw out moisture and contaminate your priming powder.
