    A Moment of Weakness

54 is my all time favorite caliber. 45 is a second close but 54 can and does do whatever you need doing. Congrats on your new addiction. Enjoy the process and don't get bogged down on the final product. The ride is where it is at.

Loading down for a .62 flinter

That my friend is fantastic accuracy with a smooth bore. I shoot twice that group at 50 yds and figured mine was doing fine 🙂 👍 👌 Color me jealous.

    SOLD Sharon Plains Rifle .54

Already have three 54's. Happens to be my favorite caliber but don't need another. Suggest giving more specs tho. Like barrel length, weight, length of pull and barrel diameter across the flats. Good luck with your sale of a great lookin rifle

How I Stripe my Ram Rods. A how-to video.

I also enjoyed your video. Thing that appeals to me is the UNprecise lines making your burnthrough on the tape a very natural appearance. Thanks for the tutorial.

    Fly position on SMR lock

Great write up. Mostly super helpful cept from a couple wise-n-hymers. Thing to keep in mind is the rounded edge of the fly is always facing the sear so as to prevent the sear from slipping into the half cock notch when the set trigger is used. Reason for this is in the speed of the mainspring...

    Kibler colonial

After reading this first page, I am going to suggest (if someone hasn't yet) that a call to Jim would be a great move with questions about the wrist area and weakness. Jim has built many gunstocks and is maybe the best judge on stock strength. Not sayin that an extra strength pre-fix is not a...

What to do with worn out flints?

Usually throw em away. I do have a lock that takes a 1 inch flint but never occurred to me to knap em up for my smaller locks. Great idea 💡

    Finally Succumbed...,

Have to admit to trying the homemade caps with varied success, nough so that I quite. Interested in the fast pistol powder mix. How does that work and what formula is used? Is this all that is used? Or is it covering another formula in the cap? lots of questions and the primary reason I went...

How good are L+R locks as a Hawken “drop in”

I am a tinkerer at heart so the “fitting” required was a nice diversion and my end results on the Renegade are satisfyingly endearing to me. Makes my 54 Renegade just that much more “mine” if you can enjoy the tinkering and self engineering required , I say go for it. Just go slow and look at...

Barrel weights according to Jim Kibler

I would think that a SMR weight would be substantially less than a woodsrunner would be. Seems like I heard in the recent past that a fella built a 45 cal black walnut SMR Kibler and the finished weight was around 6.5 lbs. that is in my opinion a nice weight. This is what I have my sights set on...
