WANTED Needing an English style percussion hooked breech

I need the kind that uses a drip rail, I don't need the rail. It needs to be in 1 inch ATF, right hand, and either 3/4 or 5/8 threads. $50 or?

    Goulcher percussion locks

Hi William, I use them all the time. Never had any issues with them and they seem to work just fine.

    ruger old army subs

777 works great. Just use any opened can quickly because it seems to weaken with age/exposure to air! From a newly opened can I get excellent results in my "chunk gun". After letting the can sit for a year I couldn't even keep the shots on paper at 60yds! It is just about as corrosive as BP. So...

    Unacceptable kit condition?

Those little things are what make a hand built gun unique! Darn few original guns were built to the spec's many folks consider as standard today, or even close to them!

    Unacceptable kit condition?

Pretty much the standard for kit guns! The idea behind them being that one has the skills to finish the work! Kibler's kits, as I've been told not having seen one yet, are for those who lack the basic skills. They cost more and you get what you pay for!

packing a Flintlock rifle for shipping

I use a wood box and yes, it does cost more (Going up by 5.9% next year)! But is the gun worth the extra security? The shipping Co. has a hard time claiming insufficient packing as opposed to shipping in cardboard!

    Loading shot without wads

Toilet paper works, too! It tends to get blasted to small fragments on exiting the muzzle and I suspect those are less subject to starting a fire!

The flint that does not fail

Seeing the lock explains the misfire problem! Glad you found a way to get around it! I believe they make a replacement lock which also corrects the misfire problem, and looks more traditional! But unless you go where Buckskinners, Mountain Men and other BP folks congregate it's probably not an...

The flint that does not fail

I've probably had as many misfires with percussion as I have had with flint! With flint it is usually much easier to fix the problem!

    Ramrod help

Their is also a size 6x32 lock bolt that can help - IF the bolt doesn't go squarely through the center of the rod hole! That forward bolt is likely a carryover from the huge early flintlocks which threw a cock and flint so massive that the weight of the cock/flint striking the frizzen and...

    Ramrod help

Measure the depth of the hole. If it stops before the face of the breech you can, with care, drill at least that far! If the gun is flint and the rod stops at the front lock bolt you may be out of luck - although there is a fix which will eliminate that bolt and let you drill deeper! If the hole...
