No, you can't ship black powder pistols or handguns via the USPS.

Dumb cap and ball mistake - advice needed
A less invasive method: - Remove the cylinder - Remove the caps - Screw a self-tapping screw into the ball from the mouth of the chamber - Pull the screw/ball assembly out - Dump powder (if present) as necessary I'm not saying I ever screwed up in a way that required pulling a ball... -

I just keep my leather goods well oiled. Never had a problem. YMMV. -

The way things are today you'll have more luck finding #10 caps than any pistol primer. Reloading components seem to be as scarce as hen's teeth.... -

Pyrodex pellets in a revolver...any one use these?
I've used pellets in my 1858. I put a lubed wad under the ball. Pro: They are more convenient and less messy than loose powder. Con: They seem to shoot dirtier than loose powder. These days, shoot what you can find and what you have... -
New owner question: Should I go ahead and buy Slix Shot nipples?
I've used Pyrodex powder and pellets for a decade with no problems. These days it's probably wise to shoot what you can get. -

Your friend experienced a chain fire. I'd be willing to bet he should have been using #10 caps instead of #11. -

Keep in mind that C&B revolvers were EDCs back in the day. You're absolutely right, they're still as effective as modern firearms.
