    Shooting shot from rifle

Is it done? I have a .40 and a .50 southern mountain rifle and was wondering if it causes any issues to run say 6 shot out of it like a smooth bore? If so what is the procedure?

    Shot and cleaned squirrel

Well, I got an education today. I decided to go hunt some squirrels with my flint .40. Not a great idea. I shot at 3 and got 2 but Lordy that forty completely disemboweled the critters. I think I know my next build. Something smaller. What's a good set up for tree rats?

    Mountain hunting

I thought I would reach out for some input on hunting in the mountains. I've just moved to the blue ridge mountains on the NC/SC line. I've always hunted the flatlands and swamps of southern Alabama and west TX. So, this is a good bit different for me working these mountains that are pretty...

    Pan priming

The one thing that I've noticed is that less prime is faster. I'd like input to that but it really does seem that when I use just a tad of primer it is faster. When I use a good bit it's very slow.

For the Tennessee Rifle fans, #138

Try going on a new Cabo yacht. Every screw on the boat is "paraded" aligned. It is impressive to see the quality and detail on a vessel that is up to 52 feet. It says a lot about the overall attention to detail, as your rifle does by parading the screws. yes, I'm in the boat business...

    Round Bottom Rifling Grooves?

It is a more durable system. I have my modern barrles cut radius as well. If you research you will find that the US sniper rifles built now are radius 5R. The fouling rate and peak accuracy range is far better. It generally takes about a dozen shots to properly foul a barrel for peak...

    Hey Y'all

I ordered 5 pounds via the internet. Good to know about bass pro though. I'm about done with building my rifle as far as structure. I hope to have it complete by Feb or so. At that point I will learn more about BP. The club down here is http://www.psc-range.com/ If you ever get bored...

    Bending steel

Sorry about the archery term, too many years of slinging sticks. I meant Pull. I have a Southern Mountain butt plate with a lot of curve to it and I wanted to take a bit out so I don't have to cut so deep into the blank. I'm fairly tall and was wanting 15" but will have to settle for 14.5" I...

    Bending steel

OK new for me - I need to bend my but plate just a bit so I can get a good draw length. What is the process to bend it. It does not want to cold bend. I gather I need to heat it with a propane torch. Do I need to quench it in water or just let it cool? Any tricks to this. I have not...

    Hey Y'all

PSC shooting center in Friendswood. It is a regular gun club not just black powder. I am new to black powder but there are several clubs in Texas so it seems.

    Planning First Build

I'm building my first BP rifle now. Never shot BP before but I decides to as a family testiment. I've built some Race guns, Bench guns, AR's and fiddled with 1911's for years but never built from this level. I ordered the components from Track of the Wolf as a pre inlet stock. I will say it...

    Hey Y'all

New here but I have found some information on clubs here in Texas. I live in Houston and this is new to me but very interesting. I have shot all sorts of firearms but I'm new to BP. http://www.nmlra.org/clubs.asp?WhichState=TX Any of you in Houston area? I sure would enjoy shooting, I'm a...
