What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Reassembled my Armi Sport 1861 Springfield after shaving and shaping the stock lock panels, comb and buttstock areas. The factory finish was almost nonexistent....so thin it just scraped off easily with a razor blade and it had ZERO penetration into the wood. They just dust on the finish and...

    Kibler Fowler Update

Gonna be a beautiful gun! Nice to see the barrel wall isn't all thick and chunky. It should balance well. Also noted on that original, a REAR SIGHT.

If muzzleloading was a sport on ESPN (funny video)

And WHERE was the pit crew? How about the physical trainer??! C'mon people! Step it up! I expect to see a news conference on this. Need a better (ball)starter. The bench is cold.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Received an auction win off of GB today. I thought it was a defarbed artillery CS 1861 and not worried much about the barrel or lock, just wanted a defarb to guide off to do the same to my Armi Sport 1861. I pulled the barrel and what do I see? A Whitacre Machine barrel! According to...

    Kibler Rear Sight

I like them tall. Easier to see and more metal to work with to get POA=POI.

    Lodgewood defarb musket stock stain

I'd like to complete a refinish job on my Armi Sport 1861 Springfield. I just can't get over the plasticky, walmart veneer looking finish on this gun! From the pics I've seen on the Lodgewood site of their defarb'd guns, that dark, brown/black reddish/purplish finish really looks good to me...

Loading down for a .62 flinter

Howdy from down in Los Lunas. No way would I use anything over 100 gr for target shooting. Just too much recoil only to put a hole in paper or clang steel. Use just enough to get the ball downrange with decent accuracy. I find that 45-80 grains works in everything I have, from .45 through...

    How small is too small?

If your patch material is a wool sweater, it'll work! A ball of .480-.495(maybe) plus a ticking patch of .015-.018" is the ticket. Really should mic the bore. They do vary from rifle to rifle.
