    First Ruger Old Army questions...

Try 40 gr of 2F, greased felt wad, and .457" rb. I get my felt from durofelt and punch them out myself, 50/50 mutton tallow and beeswax. If you call Durofelt, they will know just what you need, and sell lanolin for lube as well. I had to move back to 50 yards to get meaningful variations in...

Deer Hunting with a Ruger Old Army

My ROA will cut one ragged hole groups at 25 yds with a .457" ball, 1/8" greased felt wad, and a full charge of 2F. Or at least it did when I still had eyes. I would not hesitate to shoot a medium/small deer with that load at 20-30 yards assuming an un-spooked animal. IIRC it was a scootch...

    Front Sight Issue

Yep, on a 61 Navy that shot left. Works great. I like the Uberti remmys because they have dovetailed sights from the factory.

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

My guns shoot better with 2F vs 3F, and I get better accuracy and hit close to PoA with RB vs conical. They used catridges loaded with conicals and LIGHT charges (17-22), which worked better for foraging (shooting livestock for food) than rb did. BUUUT, people who used them for decades after...

    1858 Army

Mine like 2F over 3F. I use a lubed felt wad under the ball, and use .454 instead of the recommended .451 for my Pietta. I'm looking for sub 2" groups at 25 yards out of mine, and it will do it. If myeyes are having a good day, it will be around 1.5". My .36 '61 Navy will do about as well...

    Ruger Old Army?

It may have been 40ish. I do remember it was a lot more than I thought it would hold. No clue at all if that cylinder has been modified. basically I arrived a chanrge by filling the chamber up to the point where it looked like the wad would just give the ball room to seat, poured it back into...

    Ruger Old Army?

I have to I acquired for under $400 each. I will never, ever sell, even my Frankengun. It started as a stainless that someone thought you didn't have to clean, so now it wears a blued cylinder and action screws. The barrel looked like 40 miles of bad road when I looked through it at the...

    SOLD Turkey killing Machine FS

Have one that is choked full. I checked. It is illegal for ALL hunting in TX. it is not stamped, so I don't know if a gw would actually measure the barrel to determine the bore, so you could probably get away with upland game as long as you weren't carrying a bag marked 8 GA WADS, but I never...

Picture of recovered 54 cal. Round ball and patch from my first Flintlock doe

There is a gentleman posted here several years ago with a prb from a .54 PISTOL loaded with about 35 gr, that shattered a mulie leg and lodged under hide on the far side.

12 Ga Pedersoli shotgun and the Sky Chief Turkey load

Try 1F if you can lay hands on some. Does a bit tighter than 2f, but dropping the powder 5 gr might do the same. I just like to stay with a square load.

    HELP Shotgun Choices??

I have a fairly new 12 Ga with the screw in chokes. it is a wonderful shooter. Don't listen to the stuff about hard to load with wads. All you need is the overshot card wads. they easily fold to get past the chokes. use 4 over the powder and one over the shot. Mine gives wonderful patterns...

Conical bullets in a cap and ball revolver

45-55gr of 2F, greased hard felt wad, and .454 swaged ball should give you about as much accuracy as the gun has, and is a hoot to shoot.
