    Colorado State Muzzle Loading Association.

We see a lot of grey hair at events that we grew up enjoying. It seems that cell phones and social media will be the death of many activities we enjoy, as well as those with an historical base.

    shooting maxi

Most maxi type bullets are shot lubed without a patch wrapped around the bullet.

    High altitude hunting

I would be more concerned about the performance of my lungs and legs with a 10,000 foot elevation change. Oxygen gets harder to come by at that elevation.

Best barrel twist for .54 Caliber

Gotta love a good chuckle, but isn't "ditto" a better word?

    Advice on getting started crafting.

Some great suggestions above. You can also attend muzzleloading events in your area to see what shooters are using or possibly selling to get an idea of what you want your finished product to look like. I still have the first horn I made decades ago. It looks very stone aged compared to the...

    Flintlock coyotes?

for hunting, you might want to consider using the hottest load that gives you the best accuracy. Range will be a little less of an issue and even though they are coyotes, quick results are better results.

    First Flintlock hog

I checked out Spartan's website. It looks like they have some serious tuskers on their property. May have to fire up the Jeep. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Horn

NIce work. I like the long recessed throat. It gives the horn a nice eye appeal

Powder horn with strap from Cutfingers

Its a nice looking setup. I have an original that shows chatter marks from being scraped with a knife. Now you need to get some good old patina on the rifle to match the kit.

    First Flintlock hog

Nice hog, The rifle looks sweet too. I have hunted hogs on multiple occasions and always had fun. Wish there was a place that had large Russian boars with some ivory. The big boys make it more interesting.

    Do you gut your deer?

I hunt with a pack frame and debone without messing with the gut sack until i push it out of the way to get the loins. The meat cools faster with the hide and bones detached. In the mountains out west we are often a ways from our trucks so a lighter load is a good thing.

    Loss of accuracy…

Are you shooting offhand when the problem occurs? If so, try shooting a string off of a sand bag rest on a bench setup. That will allow you to better see what the rifle can do rather than what you can do with the rifle.

    Any shops in Wyoming?

The Winchester Firearms Museum wing of the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody has several muzzleloaders, including Hawkens if you are interested. The BB Museum also has a Native American wing, Western Art wing, Natural History wing along with Buffalo Bill wing. The north entrance at Gardner MT is the...

    Bison Powder Horn

You can also cut a two by four into a crescent shape tapering to one end. Wrap the pointed end with a deer skin split. If you have a swivel vise you can position the "horn holder" in multiple positions to work on most all of the surfaces. the leather wrap helps keep the horn in position. As...
