Who the heck made this Hawken rifle?

Well, it does have an octagon barrel, a percussion lock, a walnut stock and a crescent butt plate. That, however, is where the similarity pretty much ends. This gun has iron furniture (TCs were brass), double barrel pins (TCs had one), fixed rear sight (TCs were adjustable and horrible looking)...

    Ballistol

It smells like puke, but it works good so I use it. Once it dries, it doesn't seem to have the odor anyway. I've tried it as a patch lube, but I prefer Hoppe's BP Cleaner and Lube. I use a 5:1 water:Ballistol mix for swabbing between shots and cleaning. I don't think it's particularly effective...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Actually, this was yesterday, but I haven't had time to be on the computer until now. My grandson and I shot my TC Hawken .50 cal. until the heat got to us. Then I taught him how to properly clean and store it. So we loaded 50 grains of Schuetzen and a .50 caliber round ball into a .50 caliber...

    .32 Rifle selection question

My .45 Pedersoli Kentucky definitely has a single trigger, so I would think the .32s do also. The Frontier .32 I have has double set triggers. Mine is percussion, and I have nothing bad to say about it. The Scout is a shorter version of the Frontier with a bit more brass, similar to the deluxe...

War films set in the (pre-Revolution) 18th century?

Because they don’t fit the current narrative.

    Nose cap ???

I don't think the brand makes a difference. Plumbers solder has been lead free for years, so almost any brand you see in a store should be lead free. I think most if not all will list the contents on the package as well. It's mostly tin.

    Cabela's chaps my hide.

I've used them and 3 Rivers Archery in the past. My shoulders have become too worn out for traditional bows anymore. Compounds are not as much fun, but it's better than not bowhunting at all.

    Kibler screwed me

Okay, you posted this on Friday with a promise of pictures. It's Sunday afternoon! I could have unscrewed the darn box by now with my arthritic hands and a rusty jackknife! Let's see some pictures! :dunno: Sorry to sound so testy. I'm on a new diet plan.

    Cabela's chaps my hide.

It started even before BP had anything to do with it. After the Cabela brothers got out, corporate pencil pushers who weren't sportsmen and had no desire to be started to institute "rules" for all the stores. Several years ago I stopped at the Cabelas near Owatonna, MN for some left wing...

How far must you travel to hunt?

If I'm at my cabin, I just have to step outside. From home, it's about a five minute drive. I'm very lucky.

    Economizing With Smallbores

My Pedersoli Frontier in .32 likes 25 grains of 3f behind a round ball on ticking. It’s a cap lock and a blast to shoot. My grandsons love it!

    powder differences

I switched from Diamondback made by Elephant to Scheutzen this year because that’s what was available. So far I would say they are both dirty, but the fouling is much softer with Scheutzen…kind of a gooey black instead of the rather hard, flakey fouling of Diamondback. That said, I think I could...
