This book has been talked about before, but For Trade and Treaty is a great overall historical reference of the trade guns.

Comfortably what books do you recommend...?
Better yet what advice do you have for a correct piece..?
Making these is my new hobby. Plus I have my wife's blessings....

"For Trade and Treaty" is a good place to start. TOW sells it. Take a look at Clay Smiths website, he has many different Trade gun kits from early to late. @Rob M. builds beautiful Trade Guns, he has posted many photos and details of his wonderful work. He would be a good resource for you.

If it's not too late, Id call and ask him not to pre-inlet the side plate and thumb piece. Mine were inlet deep and sloppy. Lots of hammering to peen out the sideplate to fill the gaps. The thumb piece is lookin like I may just make a bigger one from scratch. Oh and it's really bad off center. Salvagable, but kind of annoying.

Comfortably thanks for the book suggestion. TDM Rob has helped me a lot. He is very knowledgeable and no question is a bad question for him. He goes out of his way to help...
His advice helped me greatly on my first one. Now I'm on to number three.
Did I mention I hate kits. Except the Kibler kits ...Seems a few of the kit makers just don't take pride in what they sell. To me it's thanks for the money Now fix my screw ups......LoL

The way you guys make these guns they are definitely an investment and could be sold for way more than the money you have in them, eventually. My wife realizes that quality firearms are indeed an investment that most likely will appreciate and actually encourages me to acquire them.
