Sweet! Looking forward to seeing pictures! I looked really hard at the Clay Smith kits. Ended up going with a Chambers just because I was able to handle and shoot his PA Fowler. I just loved the fit and feel.

He makes great kits . I've put a couple together. I THINK it is the Bumford style ....Man ! That wrist is TINY ! Some one as clumsy as me would have that thing wrapped in rawhide in no time ! LOL .... Post pics when you get it !

Rest assured that mine will not look anything like yours when finished! But I’m going to take my time and enjoy the build. Gots lots of good resource material to study now thanks to you!!

I ordered an Early English Trade Gun kit from Clay this morning. It will have a Davis lock and a 44” Rice barrel in 20 ga - .62, should have it in about 3 weeks or so. It will a 1740’s Virginia style. Looking forward to the build. My wife says this better be my last, so enjoy it!
Didn't you just finish a build? My wife would have only made that Last comment if I was still holding onto my last.

Ha! I did just finish one. But I'd been playing the Trade gun up for a long time, not that she has a clue what a trade gun is. After 43 years I've learned to kinda squint my eyes so the return glare doesn't blind me. ;)

My wife says the same thing every time I buy another one. :thumb:

You will like Clay Smith's gun. I built one a few years back. At the time he was using Colerain barrels. I got mine with a 36 inch barrel and a back sight because I wanted a shorter gun for turkey hunting. It has worked out well. In fact, I am taking it out with my dog squirrel hunting this afternoon. Looking forward to your build.
