There have been several different methods for making patterns for casting cannon barrels. A wooden pattern might be the most common. Sculpting clay or wax could be possibilities also.
I have accumulated quite a few drawings of historical barrels and tried to make wooden patterns of them.
In this thread, I will present a few of my pieces.
This first one is of a full scale Carronade with trunnions or Gunade as it should be called. It is a 12 pounder. It is full scale at 39" long.
Note the drawing on the wall behind my lathe.
This was made entirly of pine 2" X 10" and 12" boards from Home Depot.
