Also in the museum amongst all the Civil War artifacts was a beautiful Kentucky SMR. But this was the fanciest SMR I’ve ever seen. Silver inlay everywhere and silver hand guard. Being under glass I only snapped a few photos. There wasn’t a lot of info on it but it is an original that was locally owned.
not a knowledgeable person on this but it looks like it could have been a presentation piece for a prominent Mason or a wealthy southerner with masonic ties had it made special - that is gorgeous with the silver work.

Could well be. I’m no expert either. I did recognize it as being a SMR as it was described but as I said it was totally over the top. It had a slender silver nose cap and 3 silver barrel wedges and silver wedge plates. And the trigger guard was screwed, didn’t see a pin anywhere on it. Wish I’d taken more photos. But Camp Moore is fairly close by so I’ll try to go back and take a closer look and ask some questions.

Braved the cold to do some shooting with my daughter and my new '51 Navy snub nose. It was surprisingly accurate and she had the most fun shooting to date. She was having problems aiming while anticipating the boom so we trained with just caps for a few cylinders and she was good to go after that. That smile on her face tells you she's hooked! this made my heart warm on a cold day! you are a blessed man.

Finally made it back to civilization! We had a great time camping and hunting in Daniel Boone national forest. My dad brought down a nice doe! My older brother scored on a basket six point! My 13-year-old took a shot on a doe that was at about 40 yards. He scored a hit but unfortunately it was not a fatal one. We followed the blood trail for a while and then saw it in the deep brush. We decided to come back the next morning to look for it. At about 11 o’clock the next morning we jump a doe about 30 yards from where we had seen his the night before. I could not keep up with it on a run through the woods :) about 30 yards from where we first saw the doe I found a warm bed with dried blood. I think it will live to fight another day. I was very proud of my son though. He remained calm and took his time. All hunting was with PRB.

That’s a nice deer!! Was it us first hunt ever or first BP hunt?
He had gone hunting once before a few years back (archery) but had no success. I took him shooting a while back and was able to get him interested in muzzleloaders. I trained him on that .50 cal Sharon Trade Rifle he used to take this fine buck.

A great adventure that your boys will always remember! Congratulations on the Buck and the Doe!

Cross country skied out to my biathlon target again today. much better shooting today. Yesterday was 4f in the morning so it was a bit brisk and I was having some slow ignition.. This morning it was high teens f and all my shots felt perfect and crisp. Good consistent hits out to 30 yards . target and pistol for size refrence..

Spent the afternoon at my range shooting my flint .50 Pedersoli Kentucky rifle. Hadn’t shot it in a while, which is a shame, because it’s a fun rifle to shoot. The only load change I made from regular is I used lubed over powder wads, which seemed to help. I put over 35 balls down range which is a lot for me, but the weather was nice and I just enjoyed shooting. Was using 70 gr 3F Goex with a .015 lubed wad & .490 RB. Most of my shots were at 50 yrds but I shot some at 100 too. With my eyes I was pleased with the 100 yard groups. I was using my homemade beeswax/crisco/& oil lube. Next time out I’ll try some .018 & .020 wads.

today i soaked the bore of my combo rifle/smooth bore with most of the stuff against the breech to get that clean of rust. most of the bore is clean with just a few pits.
I am in the clutches of Multiple sclerosis reoccurring type at the present so after the exhausting chore of swabbing that bore, I went back to bed at 10:30. slept another 4 hours. feel like a dead dog.
