Just put this together over the last couple of days. A Traditions .54 Blunderbuss Kit

Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Too damn cold out there for fun shooting.

I need to work on the trigger a little more but it seems good to go.

Stain is Red Oak and that was finished with a couple coats of Minwax finishing wax.

Great work! It should make an impressive ball of fire with that barrel!
I totally want to shoot it in the dark to see it blast, but I will restrain the urge.
Now what I really want is an old style 6, 8 or 10 bore gunmetal blunderbuss, but that is a little out of my price range at this point of life. Goals....

That would look good on my wall, and hold while i’m watching pirate movies! How about a couple of good shots of the inside of the muzzle - is the bell one piece with the barrel or added on to it? Thanks!

don

I was just going through the book that came with this gun and they included a .54 conical load in the load chart..

why on gods green earth would they do that? That thing will just tumble and keyhole, accuracy will be manure and never improve.... I bet the person who ok'd that chart for this gun just saw .54 and used the same chart that is for the rifles.

Shot it today.
Had to dispatch one of the young roosters. Sucks, but that is country life. That boy was a menace. Been raising chickens for the last 15+ years and he was the most aggressive, mean rooster I ever seen. The hens are glad he is gone.

Loudest gun I have. I think that bell increases the boom. Very deadly. I had it loaded with shot and buck load of F size buck (5 pellets) and 7.5 shot (whatever amount the 50 grain mark on my measure comes out to) over powder wad, over shot wad, with 75 grains of 2F powder.

This is what mine does for ball of fire. 60grFF. 12 guage with RB. Always a crowd pleaser on the trap range, but ya gotta get them quick! For just making noise, I double the powder and pack it down hard. No need for a wad on top; the flash will light up a significant part of your surroundings when you salute the New Year.

I built one of those a year ago. Mine is a 50 cal and I haven't shot it yet either.

I actually did shoot it a few weeks ago. Culled a mean rooster from my flock as a test shot. It worked very well at 15 yards against a rooster with buck and shot.
I didn't really want to cull him, but he was the meanest rooster I have seen in the last 18 years or so of raising chickens. Killed one of my smallest hens. He had to go.
