I agree the old CVA barrels will shoot with great accuracy. I have two barrels a 45cal and a. 50cal I bought on a sale of old kits that had parts missing. I used the barrels in two builds I posted here recently. They shoot as well as the Douglas an Green Mountain barrels in my other guns. I can shoot the 50cal CVA best of any I own. I clean the barrel and breech by removing the lock and pumping Black Solve or dish soap and hot water through there till it runs clean out the vent on the 45 flint or the drum on the percussion 50cal. Then dry patch them and lighty oil the bore. So far this has kept the small powder pocket in the breech clear and no barrel rust.

I want to see pictures. I have two made in USA types. I would love to get your ideas for changes. Might even copy your work. I like 'em just as they are also. Dale
Same Here. I've owned 3 over the last 10 years, .45,.50, and.54. All were worthy shooters. The .45 was the most accurate. Mistake to trade it off. Still keep a picture, to remind me not to be hasty in trading things off. Had a matching Mountain Pistol also...

This patch box. I have two trigger guards, need to decide which one. Still need an entry pipe, and deciding weither or not to re contour the original nose cap. On a limited income, so Johnny Cashing it, one piece at a time. Keep you posted on my progress. Should probably make a new thread. Apologies to the OP.
I am betting that most of the young guys here don't get the Johnny Cashing reference. :)

Yeah..Feel bad for kids today. No real heroes, and their music sounds like someone strangling A cat. Its an instant gratification society today.
Agreed. Am very thankful for growing up in the time and place that I did. 200 years earlier would have been better though... Time to hit GunBroker and find me a mountain rifle project. I love this stuff...

For those interested here is my mountain rifle that I tried to “Hawkenize.” I bought the original kit back in the early 80’s when I was in High School. Completed these modifications last year.
