I've been doing some reading on the hexagonal bore but I was wondering if I could fire patched round balls out of it

Anyone have one of these that they can give me some information on I can't find anything online about it really

As a collector of percussion over under guns, I've got a bunch of them by Barry C Wood of Painted Post, NY. MOST use one back action lock, which fires the top barrel, and an underhammer lock to fire the bottom barrel. They were made with both barrels rifled or with the bottom barrel left smoothbore. Mine, with two back action locks as your gun, is .42 rifle over .50 smooth. Yes, the rifling handles patched lead balls well. Yours seems a bit "rough", so I wouldn't want to fire it without a very careful inspection by a qualified individual... Barre Cole Wood was born in 1817. He moved to Painted Post in 1840 and died there in 1902.

Very dirty, but otherwise good working order. Had the barrels off and all seems good and tight

Interesting rifle - does the barrel assembly pivot? What caliber is it? How heavy is it? It needs and deserves some tender loving care!

The barrel does not swivel. You have to push the trigger forward every time you pull a hammer backwards. As for the caliber I believe it is 45

Well ,after carefully suspecting everything, its a 38 cal. Very accurate with 40 grains patched cylindrical bullet
