I am not an expert at all… does the lock fit on this gun look right for $3000? I can’t see it in person and it looks rough to me

It looks like a Siler lock. Inletting could have been tighter but it's not unreasonable. The price does seem to be a tad bit high.

looks like the inletting is deep, with the cheek higher than the plate bevel. at 3k, i just may sell some of my efforts! naw, they are like my children.
Let the experts answer. But, it doesn't look good to me.
3000 bucks! and a plain piece of wood! who cares how it is inletted! i would turn away, but just my opinion,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The rest of the gun looks good (to me?) There is some figuring in the stock but the finish looks pretty plain.

Looks to me like a $1200 gun new. Consider its using a 1770s Germanic lock on an 1810-1840 rifle for starters. Poor choice. A Kibler SMR kit can be bought for about $1200 with fine wood, I’m guessing. Give somebody $700 to fit and finish and you’re under $2k and better off.

it is a nice looking rifle, and the value is exactly what someone will pay for it. the sum of parts doesn't reach that price but.........
also notice the gap under the front sight.... i would run....

Poor workmanship in general. Lock panels very poorly shaped. Poor inletting. Front sight poorly mounted. Who ever wants three grand for that, highly over rates their craftsmanship. If a friend asked me for an appraisal, I would be hard put to tell him to give over a grand for it.

The inletting is correct if the bolster makes 100 percent contact with barrel and there's no gap around the lock plate. So if those conditions exist, the inletting isn't "too deep".
Not enough wood has been removed in the width of the lock panel and not enough wood has been removed around the lock panel. Needs a LOT of slimming down. Either the builder didn't know any better, or they're drag-azz lazy.
It's fixable to be presentable, but not at $3K, heck no.......
