When removing/replacing a front sight does one go left to right when facing muzzle or right to left? Don't want to tighten the bevel...

The direction the front sight enters the barrel dovetail is referenced from looking down the barrel, not looking from the muzzle. So, when looking down the barrel from the buttstock of the rifle you always start the front sight insert from the right side. If you look at the male dovetail on the sight insert you can see the taper built in it. Nearly every insert needs to be filed down to fit as barrel dovetails are not cut the same on every rifle & will vary from .359" to .370", while the sight insert is nearly always .375" or 3/8" nominal.

Old Hawkeye has replied with some good information. Do not assume all makers follow what he said. I personally would measure or do a visual of the insert first. No matter what you think, go easy to make sure you are going in the correct direction.

Right to left when looking down the barrel from the breech.

Thanks! Did the visual and do not appreciate a taper hence my question. The manufacture is Pedersoli if that makes a difference
