REDUCED This is a really well executed and seemingly unfired left-handed Pennsylvania longrifle with a William M. Large barrel (UPDATE from knowledgeable source: The W.M.L. is one of Bill's signatures and the number on the muzzle was PROBABLY from (John) Buehmiller and the "L" indicated Bill had altered it.) There were a few other makers that used those barrel blanks. Its browned 45 1/2" octagon barrel is a straight taper from.900 to .800. It is fitted with notch rear & small brass blade front sights. Top flat is engraved "19 GMH 55" (G Howe, from consigner). Top left flat is stamped "W. M. L. (William Large) for G. H." The L&R Manton style Siler lock with Serpentine cock and semi waterproof pan indicate the rifle was built much later, using the repurposed barrel. Stock is nicely figured curly maple w/ 2" brass nosecap and is pinned to barrel with pins through ovate silver escutcheons. Stock has a left hand cheekpiece and fancy patchbox on left side. Trigger guard has spur at rear forming grip. There is a vacant silver oval at top of grip. LOP is 13.25". Striped hickory ramrod mounts through 3 beaded pipes & matching thimble. Small cracks near nosecap and Lock screw (see pics). In Very Good to Excellent condition with iron parts retaining nearly all of their original brown finish. Stock retains nearly all of its dark stain. Brass is nicely toned. Bore is very fine, sharp and shiny. Lock shows little use. $1450 Shipped.
