Well I just finished up my Fowler build and I'm already starting up the next this Saturday. I'll be heading over to my friend and mentors shop to get going on this next project. This will be my first "stick" build.

I'm going for a Moravian influenced flintlock. I love the lines of these early guns by builders like Albrecht and Oerter.

Here's the parts list:
.50 caliber 42" swamped Colerain barrel.
Chambers Deluxe Siler lock.
Trigger guard and Butt plate cast by Allen Martin.
All the other hardware is from Chambers.
I have two blank stocks to choose from both are Maple.
I haven't decided on a patch box yet. I'm kinda leaning towards a wood patch box but they did some interesting brass patch boxes too.

Here's some pics of the parts:

I use a Christian Springs rifle, Modeled after a Andreas Albricht style rifle, .62 cal. took a few liberties with the gun had it mounted in iorn and yes it has a wood patch box. Wide butt and a 44 in swamped barrel. THIS RIFLE WAS A TRANSITIONAL RIFLE FROM THE YEAGERS, Do some research on the Morivian builders theres a good bit of info to be found. Theres a site called cheeries that has a lot of info. pertaining to those style rifles.

He mentioned Albrecht and Oerter.....A 42" barrel and siler lock are really perfect for those and any Moravian builder. Everyone should get the KRA discs...the Moravian rifles one is especially good as it lists a lot of dimensions. Average lock plate length is 5.25-5.5. Barrels lengths are from 41" on up. There's even a 57" barreled gun! It's got a big ol' Dutch looking lock on it though.

Ha! I see Dave beat me to it on the KRA discs.

Hatchet,
Three things…… lock, Siler is a little late, an earlier lock may serve you better.
go with a wood box, for the same reason, a shorter , larger bore would be more correct as well.
Dont mean to discourage, just more what an earlier gun would have.
Thanks Flint, but I have done my research using the KRA CDs and the Moravian book II. I found several examples with dimensions that a "Deluxe" Siler lock was a very close match to. While not a perfect match it has a square pan and the size is right. I may do some modifications to get it even closer. I also found several with something around a 42" - 44" barrel. Perhaps you are referring to a Jaeger?

Thanks I do appreciate any and all feedback.

Thank you I would love to see your rifle please post some pics. I have done a lot of research using the KRA CDs and the Moravian Book II. I can't seem to find a copy of the first book. I'll definitely check out that site!

Hi,
Get the Kentucky Rifle Foundation cds on Moravian guns. They will help a lot if you really want to do this right. Bob Lienemann's 2 books on Moravian gun making are also invaluable. Here are two examples of Moravian inspired guns.

Thanks Dave! I have the two CDs from KRA and the second book which is what I use to research and decide on the parts. I'm still on the hunt for the first book which is out of print. Wow those are beautiful guns!!!
